Job Title: Director, Scientific Communications
Reporting To: VP, Medical Affairs

Location: Remote or La Jolla, CA Hybrid (2-3 days a week in office)
Position Summary The Director, Scientific Communications will report to the VP, Medical Affairs and will oversee and manage the organization’s scientific communications, including the development and implementation of scientific platforms, data communications strategies and tactics. A focus will be on publication planning strategy and execution, including the development of abstracts, posters, and oral presentations at scientific congresses and submission of manuscripts to scientific journals in a timing and manner that is aligned with overall corporate goals. This position will work in collaboration with business partners and external stakeholders to craft and implement external engagement that supports education and awareness.
Responsibilities include but may not be limited to: - Lead the creation and execution of global communications strategies and publication plans that are aligned with corporate goals and timelines
- Ensure cross-functional alignment of messaging and strategies, leading the efforts to address meaningful gaps
- Lead the timely execution of publication plans to produce high quality, accurate and impactful deliverables including abstracts, posters, oral presentations, manuscripts, and slide decks
- Lead the planning and coverage efforts related to relevant scientific congresses, and development of pre- and post-congress summaries; develop content for symposia and scientific exhibits
- Manage agencies, vendors, medical writer relationships, coordinating their activities with internal and external stakeholders.
- Establish the operational standards for the medical writing activities (e.g., style guidelines, templates and QC, etc.)
- Ensure all medical communications outputs meet the highest standards of medical/scientific integrity
- Develop collaborative and productive relationships with external investigators, thought leaders and authors
Minimum Requirements - Doctorate degree (PharmD, PhD, MD, DO or equivalent)
- 8-10 years of experience in b iotechnology, pharmaceutical, medical writing, or agency experience
- Commitment to highest standards of medical/scientific integrity and ethics
- Strong experience in strategic publication planning (including scientific platforms), tactical publication planning and implementation, and the planning and development of medical educational materials
- Ability to understand and interpret clinical and scientific data; ability to define data presentation to meet key messages constructed by the team
- Demonstrated ability to produce clear, concise, and effective written and verbal communications describing scientific and clinical data in English
- Knowledge of FDA and EMEA regulations, GCP, ICH guidelines
- Knowledge of the International Committee of Medical Journal Editors (ICMJE) Guidelines and International Society for Medical Publication Professionals (ISMPP) Good Publication Practice 2022 (GPP 2022) Guidelines
- Motivated to work in a fast-paced, high accountability environment
- Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills

Pay Transparency The expected salary for candidates who work in La, Jolla, CA is $215-230k. The final salary offered to a successful candidate will be dependent on several factors that may include but are not limited to the type and length of experience within the industry, education, etc. Longboard Pharmaceuticals, Inc is a multi-state employer and will consider candidates based in remote work locations.
