Position Summary/Description:

The Principal Biostatistician serves as the lead Coordinating Center biostatistician, project, and data manager for one or more large multi-center observational studies or clinical trials. The analysis support team typically includes one or more of the following: biostatisticians, statistical programmers, bioinformaticists, and data scientists working on the project. The Principal Biostatistician leads the analysis support team, allocating tasks to team members and mentoring the more junior staff. The position includes working with the study's CSCC Principal Investigator and Project Director/Manager as well as with investigators and staff external to UNC . Successful Principal Biostatistician must not only have substantial statistical and project management experience but must also have a thorough understanding of statistical programming, best practices for data collection, data standardization, and quality assurance. They must also have excellent written and verbal communication skills. The Principal Biostatistician may also serve as a Project Manager for CSCC research studies.

In addition to having substantial expertise using statistical methodology, the Principal Biostatistician must also have significant interest and proficiency in project management in a multidisciplinary, team-based environment, statistical programming using software such as SAS and/or R, and using best practices for statistical analyses and data science to ensure high-quality, reproducible research findings.

Education and Experience:

* A Master's in Biostatistics or Statistics or in a related field with substantial applied statistical and analytical training.
* Experience working as a senior statistician and as a project manager on large trial or cohort multi-site studies, and preferably in a large Coordinating Center setting.
* Experience implementing data standards (e.g., Study Data Tabulation Model ( SDTM )) and metadata standards is desirable but not required.
