Summary
The Sr. Data Scientist will drive Carhartt’s analytics direction to help us gain a deeper understanding of every stage of our business from demand to supply and the optimization of everything in between. This position will partner with business leaders and project owners to identify the appropriate analytics solution to answer their business questions – ranging from descriptive to predictive deliverables. This position will provide mentorship and input on all modeling efforts produced by the analytics.

Responsibilities
- Lead complex machine learning projects, including planning, execution, and monitoring, while effectively coordinating with cross-functional teams. Document entirety of project, including but not limited to technical requirements and specifications in source code repository, training materials and business-facing overview documents.
- Identify opportunities for leveraging data to drive business solutions and strategies, and implement data-driven initiatives that result in significant cost reduction, revenue enhancement, or process improvement.
- Develop reproducible machine learning pipelines that follow the principles of coding.
- Present complex results and architecture internally to IT peers, effectively translating technical details into clear, understandable concepts for a diverse audience within the organization.
- Define architecture of machine learning, AI and advanced analytics projects, including delivery method, technology decisions, dependencies, scope, cost, data procurement needs, and time.
- Work hands-on with end users and stakeholders of final product. Create a successful engagement model and ensure that end results are applicable, understood, socialized, and drive business value. As part of this, driving regular show and tells for releases.
- Serve as an expert in the field. Mentor peers by actively participating in code and architecture reviews and offering training to data scientists and analysts.
Education
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent years of experience required in Related Field
- Master's Degree Preferred in Analytics or Statistics
Required Skills and Experience
- 8+ years’ experience in and solid knowledge of analytics and data mining techniques including the following:
- 5+ years’ applied data science implementation experience in a business setting.
- 5+ years’ experience working with Python for modeling and data processing.
- 3+ years’ experience working with data visualization (Streamlit or Power BI).
- 2+ years' experience working with Databricks preferred.
- 2+ years’ experience working with Deep Learning frameworks (Keras, TensorFlow, PyTorch).
- 1+ years’ experience working with Azure (Storage Account, Functions, Web Apps) preferred.
- Advanced proficiency pulling and manipulating data. Strong, demonstrated working knowledge of relational databases, SQL query language, time series and unstructured datasets.
- Knowledge or curiosity of leveraging and working with large language models.
- Strong understanding of CI/CD.
- Sophisticated understanding of big data problems, preferably in the retail/CPG domain.
- Intermediate business knowledge. Deep level of understanding in one or two primary areas, with a demonstrated aptitude for curiosity and increased learning.
- Positive, can-do attitude; ability to be flexible and open to changes in requirements, directions or circumstances with minimal need for reorientation.
- Proactive and self-motivated with an orientation towards delivering analytics products that move the business.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team, and with all levels of management (senior executives to more entry-level staff).
- Strong leadership and change management skills.
- Strong project management skills.
- Demonstrated success in working with and influencing stakeholders, business partners cross-functionally.
