Job Description

SUMMARY:

Under the direction of an academic administrator, assist in the planning, developing, and supervising of a student health program; supervise, train, and evaluate the performance of assigned staff.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Plan and supervise the day-to-day operation of a student health services program.

Assist in formulating objectives, standards and procedures for assigned programs.

Assist in the budget planning, preparation and implementation of the Health Services budget.

Establish standards and procedures for first aid care; administer first aid for accidents or illnesses that may occur on campus.

Maintain the necessary supplies and equipment for the program.

Supervise, assign, train, and evaluate assigned personnel.

Prepare and maintain various reports and records as required for the student health program.

Coordinate the activities of the Health Services Program with the college counseling staff.

Determine current college health needs and maintain awareness of the latest health trends.

Conduct health screening evaluation of students and staff for referral to the appropriate community health agency.

Maintain and distribute current off campus health care information such as physicians, dentists, clinic and laboratory facilities, mental health, birth control, V.D. clinics, aids clinics, etc. to the college community.

Maintain a variety of health information, brochures, and pamphlets for students and staff.

Conduct and communicate an on-going health education program through seminars, workshops, classroom presentations, newsletters, posters, etc.

Attend a variety of meetings as required; serve on committees and be an active participant in the campus community activities; serve as the college liaison to local community health agencies.

Maintain departmental area(s) in a safe, clean and orderly condition; assure compliance with established safety procedures and regulations.

Maintain currency of qualifications for area of assignment

Perform related duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES:

ABILITY TO:





EDUCATION: A master's degree in nursing or a bachelor's degree in nursing and a master's degree in health education, sociology, psychology, counseling, health care administration, public health or community health.



EXPERIENCE: Previous experience in a public health or occupational health or school health setting is preferred.



LICENSES AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS: Current California Board of Registered Nursing License or a Public Health Nursing Certificate is preferred.



WORKING CONDITIONS: Health Services Office environment; subject to exposure to communicable disease.
