The Role:
Responsible for occupant performance and restraints development for GM Vehicle Programs. Lead engineering projects by demonstrating initiative, creativity, independent judgment, and project management throughout the vehicle development process. Provide technical direction while working with multiple functional groups.
What You'll Do:
Generate feasible and timely design recommendations and technical solutions to meet safety performance targets for the vehicle program as documented in the Vehicle Technical Specifications (VTS).
Work with engineering functions, program teams, suppliers, manufacturing, and others to implement design changes as required to achieve vehicle performance.
Balance safety requirements based on the results of safety simulations for the major safety load cases with other performance requirements.
Develop comprehensive validation plan, conduct confirmation testing with production hardware, complete post-test teardowns and generate appropriate documentation (PAC, MVSS, Type Approval)
Understand and apply GM Safety CAE standard work procedures for delivering quality models and simulation results. Utilize GM Safety CAE standard work procedures for all simulations and assure high quality models
Use CAE to lead restraint design, while balancing all applicable Global Safety Requirements for specific area of responsibility (For example: Frontal or Side Impacts)
Perform Computer Aided Engineering simulations for restraints balancing/development, evaluate Occupant and restraints performance in high-speed Frontal and Side impacts load cases for Occupant protection, etc. using LS-DYNA software.
Use advanced CAE tools and methods (Variation Study/DOE/DFSS) to optimize the restraint designs.
Work with global teams in a collaborative environment.
Present performance status at appropriate forums on regular basis (Safety PIT, PDT, CIT, SP-QIT)
Demonstrate GM Core Values and Behaviors
Work cross functionally to maximize learnings from limited hardware. Follow up post-test comparison of CAE and test results and incorporate learnings into improved modeling and analysis techniques to support virtual validation.
