Job description
Join HQHR, a leading recruitment company focused on the automotive industry, as the Director of Vehicle Safety Investigations for our client. As the Director, you will play a key role in ensuring the safety and compliance of our client's vehicles through effective investigations and analysis.
In this role, you will be responsible for leading a team of safety investigators and analysts, overseeing the investigation process for reported vehicle safety issues and incidents. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams, including engineering, quality assurance, and legal, to gather information and evidence, conduct root cause analysis, and develop corrective actions to address safety concerns.
The Director of Vehicle Safety Investigations will also be responsible for managing communications and relationships with regulatory agencies ensuring compliance with reporting requirements and timely resolution of safety-related matters.
Responsibilities
- Lead the Vehicle Safety Investigation team, overseeing HR responsibilities, including hiring and team expansion.
- Direct internal vehicle safety investigations, collaborating with affiliates.
- Chair the Technical Review Committee, promoting safety investigation issues for field action consideration.
- Collaborate with various teams, including Safety Test Investigation Lab, Manufacturing Plants, Suppliers, and regulatory bodies.
- Manage correspondence, submissions, and strategic negotiations on key investigations.
- Oversee and lead deep dive meetings, discussions, and presentations.
- Track, manage, and execute aftersales vehicle safety issues from investigation to resolution.
- Lead and manage third-party firms supporting vehicle safety investigations.
- Drive issue resolution by coordinating with R&D, Quality, and other departments.
- Identify requirements for Technical Service Bulletins (TSBs) and ensure effective vehicle remedies.
- Provide technical support for regulatory and product liability issues and various departments.
- Coach, counsel, and develop staff, focusing on improved technical capabilities and career development.
- Drive engineering fleet vehicles to monitor and identify potential safety quality issues.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering or a related field
- Minimum of 10 years of experience in vehicle safety investigations
- Strong knowledge of automotive safety regulations and standards
- Proven leadership and team management skills
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities
- Ability to effectively communicate complex technical information
- Experience in conducting root cause analysis and developing corrective actions
- Familiarity with regulatory agencies such as NHTSA and Transport Canada
- Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple projects
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
