Maintenance Manager – Traverse City, MI
Kennametal is a global market leader in tooling, wear solutions, engineered components, earth cutting and construction tools in aerospace, energy, general engineering, earthworks, and transportation.
The Kennametal manufacturing plant in Traverse City, MI currently has an opening for a Maintenance Manager supporting the Engineered Components in Infrastructure Business. The position will lead the maintenance team and be responsible for all machine maintenance, facility, and work in conjunction with Corporate EHS and the site manager to lead the site EHS strategy. This position reports directly to the Plant Manager.
Responsibilities for this position include, but are not limited to:
- Ensure adherence to plant environmental, health and safety guidelines and regulations, and foster commitment across the Maintenance team.
- Operate as a role model who embraces the Kennametal Cultural Beliefs and inspires others to do the same.
- Develop maintenance strategy, incorporating preventive and proactive maintenance, including automation, aligned with capital plan.
- Support standardization of equipment with Manufacturing Engineers and Technology Competency Teams to leverage spending with strategic vendors and equipment replacement.
- Lead plant maintenance throughout the facility, ensuring that production requirements are achieved and optimized with minimal unplanned downtime.
- Establish improvement metrics and management operating system for critical equipment.
- Drive continuous improvement behaviors throughout the Maintenance team and for yourself.
- Enable achievement of site KPI goals related to safety, quality, customer satisfaction, employee engagement and cost.
- Ensure compliance with established quality standards.
- Proactively manage Maintenance budget. Generate cost savings opportunities and partner with support teams (Finance, Engineering, Sourcing, etc.) to realize improvements.
- Collaborate with Manufacturing Engineering to develop and implement capital projects to meet business and plant objectives.
- Proactively manage talent in the Maintenance team by conducting performance reviews, providing coaching, enabling training, etc.
- Evaluate corporate Environmental Health and Safety strategy and develop annual site plan and objectives.
- Drive improvement of management-based safety to achieve an interdependent culture.
- Monitor progress against EHS objectives and communications to site manager and employees.
- Resolve EHS challenges and create foundations for sustainable systems.
- Conduct EHS training.
- Forecast and manage monthly and annual EHS budget.
- Identify and lead facility Protect Our Planet (POP) energy reduction and EHS capital projects.
Position Requirements:
- Qualified candidates will have a BS in Engineering, or a related field, a minimum of 5 years of direct experience in manufacturing, or 10 years of progressive leadership experience in Maintenance.
- Electrical background preferred.
- Multi-axis CNC lathe and milling machining knowledge.
- Prefer direct experience with automation systems and equipment, including robotics, PLCs, and other controls.
- Knowledge of hydraulic, mechanical and electrical systems.
- Strong organizational, interpersonal, and hands-on problem-solving skills, and experience working effectively with cross-functional teams. Lean and/or TPM experience preferred.
- Must be knowledgeable of reading and interpreting technical drawings and electrical schematics.
- Knowledge of HVAC, plumbing, gas and building systems is preferred.
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple initiatives simultaneously, set priorities, identify, and resolve problems, and meet deadlines.
- Knowledge and experience using maintenance management systems is required.
- Strong computer literacy is required, including MS Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, etc.).
- Experience with SAP software is preferred.
- Demonstrated ability to engage and inspire team members and effectively manage personnel matters.
