JOB DESCRIPTION:

Job Summary:

Responsible for the maintenance of accounting records per US GAAP/ IFRS. Specifically responsible accounts payable, maintenance of sales tax and fixed asset accounting. Prepares the financial statements, supports the CFO for internal and statutory audits, plus monthly & quarterly reporting.

Assists the Senior Manager in the Accounts Payable function and ensures accounts payable records are kept updated, while ensuring accuracy and validity of all AP transactions.

Exercises due diligence over the accounts payable function while assisting the CFO, ensuring adequate internal controls over vendor records, ensuring that all AP transactions are pre-audited before “release” for payment and the AP Ledger reviewed on a monthly basis. Interacts with other departments including Purchase, Stores etc. to ensure proper communication and document flow with respect to purchases, goods receipts, recording of payables etc. Is responsible for accounting of fixed assets, including proper accounting and recording per GAAP with accurate accumulation of capital costs, dates of capitalization, adequate depreciation and amortization, including additions, disposals, profit & loss on sale, disposal of assets.

Is responsible for accounting of sales tax, filing of sales tax returns, ensuring incentives related to sales tax are duly claimed and accounted for. Responsible for close of books and reporting of financials during month and quarter close, supports senior manager for annual audits and internal audit reviews and provides assistance in financial analysis, projections, and other special projects. Maintains control over his/her direct reports being members of the accounting staff – with responsibility of assigning tasks, oversight over their work products, ensuring timeliness in performance of tasks, periodic review of individual performance etc. Other duties assigned from time to time by the CFO as needed.

Supervisory Responsibilities: To carry out supervisory responsibility in accordance with the organization's policy and applicable laws. Supervisory responsibilities include training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

The Senior Accountant has supervisory responsibility and will be required to oversee 2 or more members of the accounting team. These members will typically be in accounts payable, fixed asset accounting and others per the needs of the department.

Education and/or Experience:

Minimum Qualifications: An accounting or equivalent bachelor's degree from an accredited university;

Language Skills:

Ability to analyze, and interpret general business and accounting documents, processes and procedures. Ability to communicate via written reports and general business correspondence. Ability to effectively present information and respond to queries and clarifications from managers, clients, customers and others.

Mathematical Skills:

Ability to work with standard mathematical and statistical skills.

Reasoning Ability:

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

Computer Skills:

To perform this job successfully, an individual should have superior computer skills including use of e-mail, be an advanced user of word processing and spread sheet tools. Should be familiar with storage of files, data security, and be familiar with accounting software preferably with the relatively more sophisticated software such as Oracle, SAP, Solomon, Great Plains, etc. Familiarity with report writers such as Crystal, Hyperion etc. is highly desirable.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:

For this position, it is expected that the person concerned would be additionally certified as a CPA, ACA, CIA, CFA etc. Memberships in the AICPA, ICAI etc. is also required. Other certifications in taxation, audit, corporate governance, commercial and sales tax law etc. would be considered an advantage though not required.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, moving mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles and toxic or caustic chemicals. The risks and exposures associated with this function are those commonly associated with desk jobs and other sedentary jobs. No major physical hazards are expected, other than those associated with the use of computers, filing equipment, office equipment such as copiers, fax machines, scanners etc.

Must haves

Minimum Relevant Experience: 3 -5 years of relevant work experience (Preferred experience in fixed asset accounting, audit preparation and production of financials for month and quarter end reporting )
