Job Summary

The Analytical Technology department is part of the SABIC global Corporate Technology and Innovation (T&I) organization, with multiple global locations. The analytical technology organization in North America provides extensive analytical expertise in the area of advanced chromatography, spectroscopy, elemental analysis, and microscopy to support T&I programs across Strategic Business Units, delivering innovative solutions for the circular economy, in automotive, healthcare, building and construction, electronics and other markets.

We are currently looking for an enthusiastic, creative and highly skilled analytical professional with broad knowledge in instrumental analysis and proven expertise in chromatography. You will use your expertise to be part of this exciting adventure acting as a liaison between the Analytical Science team and SABIC R&D. As member of the Analytical Science team in STC-Houston and working together globally, your main objective is to implement and operate state-of-the-art chromatography equipment. Equipment in scope of this position includes gas chromatography, liquid chromatography, GPC and mass spectrometry. You may expect routine hands on analytical tests depending on the project needs. The role will also focus on developing analytical methods, executing, and coordinating separation tests within the analytical team, across multi-functional teams, and with external collaborators to provide effective analytical support to product development and process optimization.  This job is located in Sugar Land, TX, USA.

How You Can Be the Impact

• Provide technical and personal leadership in the area of chromatography and be able to apply them with a hands-on mindset to support R&D activities.
• Develop and provide chemical characterization and problem solving expertise to support product development programs as well as addressing customer and manufacturing issue resolution needs.
• Design and execute both novel and routine experiments using chromatography expertise, provide in-depth data interpretation, communicate results and solutions to internal and external stakeholders, present and publish when appropriate. Translate the knowledge and cross-train colleagues as required.
• Completes workload as assigned within project timelines. Operate, troubleshoot and oversee maintenance of analytical instruments. Maintain inventory of supplies and consumables. Ensure reliability and continuity of service. Document methods and processes in accordance with EHS (Environment, health and safety) policies including SOPs (Standard Operation Procedure) and MOCs (Management of Change).
• Actively engage with key stakeholders to foster ideation and innovation in the Analytical Sciences. Stay current on novel chromatography techniques and new applications. Identify unmet analytical needs, organize and perform feasibility studies and assessments, and drive the acquisition of new instruments/techniques.
• Collaborate effectively with other chromatography experts at other regional R&D laboratories in order to help elevate SABIC’s global expertise.

What Matters to SABIC

• PhD degree in chemistry, polymer or other related fields. Or MSc with 3+ years’ experience in the field of chromatography. A degree in analytical chemistry is preferred.
• Expertise and detailed understanding of gas chromatography, liquid chromatography and mass spectrometry.
• Previous experience with polyolefin fractionation techniques and high temperature GPC is a plus.
• Broad knowledge of analytical techniques in the areas of chromatography and spectroscopy, especially for the characterization of petrochemical products and polymers.
• Ability to work independently on multiple projects with high enthusiasm and drive
• Hands-on mindset with flexibility, creativity and independence.
• Knowledge of basic statistical data analysis.
• Excellent English spoken and written language skills
