Summary:
Giner, Inc. is seeking a Staff Scientist/Engineer to support materials development for next generation battery and related technologies. The Staff Scientist/Engineer candidate should have a Bachelors or a Masters degree with approximately 2+ years of technical experience in materials science, chemistry, chemical engineering, physics, or a related field. The candidate should have a strong sense of creativity and curiosity, and a desire to work in a collaborative hands-on lab environment. Prior experience with wet chemistry and laboratory work is required. While prior experience in battery research, including lithium metal or lithium-sulfur chemistry is desirable, it is not required to succeed in this role. Candidates with a desire to learn new skills, enjoy problem-solving, and asking the right questions will be strongly considered.
Qualifications and Desired Skills:
- Prior wet chemistry lab experience required.
- Bachelors or Masters degree with approximately 2+ years of technical experience in material science, chemistry, chemical engineering, physics, or a related field.
- Enthusiasm for learning new skills and creative problem solving.
- Strong written and oral communication skills.
- Prior experience with applied electrochemistry and electrochemical analysis techniques is highly desirable.
- Highly motivated and enjoys working both independently and in a group setting.
- Detail oriented.
Job Description:
Giner battery research focuses on a wide range of next generation, beyond Li-ion chemistries. The staff scientist/engineer will support all aspects of battery research, working closely with senior scientists to design and carry out experiments. The nature of the work combines technical knowledge and creative problem solving. Lab work will include preparation and fabrication of materials and battery cells as well as testing and analysis of results, material characterization, and failure analysis characterization. In addition to lab work, the staff scientist/engineer will contribute to presentations and technical reports requiring good oral and written communication skills.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Independently carry out tasks, as well as collaborate with team members.
- Support development of next generation battery materials including electrode slurry formulations, electrode coatings, and electrolytes.
- Detailed documentation of lab protocols, progress, and results.
- Assemble and perform electrochemical testing and characterization of materials and batteries.
- Generate and analyze data.
- Present and communicate results.
- Keep an organized and detailed laboratory notebook and document testing and results.
Not required but preferred:
- Experience in battery assembly and research, including electrode fabrication and electrolyte characterization.
- Familiarity with coin and pouch cell fabrication.
- Experience with dry room or glovebox environments.
