Job description

Empowerment Academy Charter School is hiring a Dean of Assessment and Data to work with students in grades K-9 (adding 10th next year). This is for an immediate vacancy. 

Base Salary: $85,000-$115,000

POSITION OVERVIEW

Dean of Assessment and Data will:

• Help oversee Empowerment Academy’s academic assessment regime;

• Select/develop/implement systems for the capture, retrieval and presentation of scholar learning data;

• Monitor scholar learning gaps and progress;

• Help identify causes of scholar learning gaps and impeded progress (e.g., curriculum gaps, problems with lesson design, problems with lesson delivery by individual educators);

• Help determine the effectiveness of program innovations and academic interventions; 

• Assist our Director of Education and Principals in faculty evaluation.

Expectations and Responsibilities

K-12 Instructional Leadership Team Support

The Dean will provide support to the school’s instructional leadership team – consisting of Empowerment Academy’s Executive Officer, Director of Education, Principals, Academic Deans and Teacher Leaders – as they work to select/develop and regularly revise the curricula, curricular materials and assessments used at the School.

Selection, Development and Management of Empowerment Academy’s Student Learning

Information Systems

Reporting to the Director of Education, the Dean will be responsible for helping select, develop and manage Empowerment Academy’s student learning data systems, ensuring that student learning is well tracked, and that student learning data is well organized, maintained and easily retrievable not only by the Dean but also by a scholar’s educators and parents/guardians, as appropriate.

Data Formatting and Presentation

The Dean will be responsible for helping to develop data presentation formats that make the interpretation of retrieved student learning data easy.

Monitoring Scholar Learning and Needs

The Dean will be expected to monitor scholar learning in order to identify scholar learning gaps and needs in support of instructional differentiation and the forming of groups for tutoring purposes.

Academic Program/Intervention Evaluation

The Dean will be expected to monitor scholar learning in order to identify weaknesses in our curriculum, instruction or school systems and help evaluate the effectiveness of education programs, protocols and academic interventions, etc.

Leader Training in Assessment Data Analysis and Professional Learning Community Leadership

The Dean will support school leaders, grade level leaders and department leaders as they chair

Professional Learning Community (PLC) meetings that:

Educator Professional Development and Evaluation

We also expect the Dean to assist Empowerment Academy’s Director of Education and Principals in the planning of educator professional development and in the review for scholar learning data for educator evaluation purposes.

Afterschool Meetings

The Dean should expect periodically needing to stay afterschool during the school year to provide educator training or to meet with school leaders and teachers for data review and planning.

Dean Professional Development

The Dean is expected to read and master:

The Dean may be asked to visit and learn about the data-driven instruction protocols at other schools or to attend select professional development training off-campus. A stipend shall be provided when this requires attending training outside of regular work hours.
