Job description
Summary: The Payroll Manager is responsible for overseeing and managing the payroll processes for a diverse organization operating in multiple states and entities. This role requires a deep understanding of payroll regulations, tax compliance, and the ability to manage complex payroll systems.
What you would be working on:
Multi-State Payroll Management:
- Ensure accurate and timely processing of payroll for employees across multiple states.
- Stay abreast of state-specific payroll tax regulations, wage and hour laws, and other relevant compliance requirements.
- Implement best practices to streamline payroll operations across different states
Multi-Entity Payroll Oversight:
- Manage payroll processing for various legal entities within the organization
- Coordinate with Finance and HR teams to ensure accurate allocation of costs and compliance with entity-specific requirements
- Implement standardized processes for payroll across different entities while accommodating specific needs
Compliance & Reporting:
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local payroll tax regulations
- Prepare and submit accurate and timely payroll tax reports, including W-2s and 1099s
- Collaborate with legal and tax teams to address any compliance issues.
- Audits & Reconciliation:
- Conduct regular audits of payroll data to ensure accuracy and compliance with timely resolutions to discrepancies
- 401k, Workers Compensation, ACA, etc.
Technology and Systems Management:
- Oversee the payroll system, ensuring it is up-to-date and capable of handling multi-state/entity payroll complexities
- Collaborate with IT, Finance and HR to implement improvements, updates and integrations with other systems.
Communication and Training:
- Communicate payroll-related policies and changes to employees and management
- Provide training to HR functions and finance teams on multi-state and multi-entity payroll procedures
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field preferred.
- Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) designation is highly desirable.
- Proven experience in managing multi-state and multi-entity payroll processes.
- In-depth knowledge of federal and state payroll tax laws and regulations.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Proficient in using payroll software and systems, preferably Paylocity experience

Starting salary range is $65,000-$90,000 based on the level of experience, certifications, and education.
