Job description

Job Objective: The Development Coordinator will play an integral role in assisting the Director of Development to manage major donor portfolios, research, communication, and general office procedures.

Essential Functions:

• Create, maintain, and distribute Salesforce reports for the Director of Development and the Area Commander
• Track all Donor portfolio proposals and action plans
• Provide reports to the Development Director as requested
• Track, report and send acknowledgement requests of all gifts to the Administrative Assistant; request additional acknowledgements for large gifts from the Area Commander
• Manage donor and prospect research and oversee research tools (e.g., Google alerts)
• Proposal research, and grant writing
• Coordinate and continually update divisional, donor database and other provided databases
• Confirm and assist in scheduling appointments with donors and prospects
• Monthly mailings
• Composing correspondence and proposals/presentations
• Maintain expense and travel reports
• Clerical and database entry
• Establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, other agencies and the public
• Organize and prioritize large volumes of information and calls
• Draft written responses or replies by phone or e-mail when necessary. Responds to regularly occurring requests for information from donors
• Keep monthly reports up to date
• Coordinate special projects and events (Annual Leadership Breakfast, Boot Blocks, Kettle Kick Off, and others) - this may require work periods outside of regular office hours
• Coordinate Red Kettle programs within the South Central Area Command
• Work cooperatively as part of the Development Team and the South Central Area Command Team
• Other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications:

Education: High School diploma or equivalent; Bachelor's degree preferred

Experience: Minimum two years' experience in similar role or with similar responsibilities

Certifications/Licenses: None

Skills/Abilities:

• Ability to work independently and manage office when the Director of Development is out of the office
• Ability to communicate efficiently and effectively at a moment's notice with donors when the Director of Development is not available
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills required
• Maintain confidentiality
• Proficient in MS Word, Excel and internet navigation
• A professional telephone manner is essential
• Follow written and verbal instructions
• Work requires continual attention to detail in composing, typing and proofing materials, establishing priorities and meeting deadlines.

Physical Requirements: Include sitting; climbing and/or balancing; stooping, kneeling, bending, stretching, crouching and/or crawling; standing; walking; manual dexterity and eye-hand coordination; use of vision; driving a vehicle; pushing/pulling/lifting/carrying 25 pounds; traveling by airplane; both outdoor and indoor navigation of settings, and standing and/or walking up to 12 hours per day. The position requires: professionally communicating verbally with co-workers, other departments and program staff, clients, vendors, donors, volunteers, board members, philanthropic decision-makers, and officers; written communication; talking on the telephone; responding to written or verbal requests; training/giving verbal and written instructions; receiving verbal and written instructions; writing/composing written language; reading; visiting/working at other worksites and non-worksite locations; communication via the latest technologies.

Travel: Occasional travel throughout division and territory, average 1 week/month

Driving: Driving is required. Must possess a valid driver's license from the state in which you reside. Must be approved through The Salvation Army Fleet Safety Program to drive either a Salvation Army or personal vehicle on Salvation Army business.

Working Conditions: Work is performed in a typical office environment. However, the office is located in a service center and this position may interact with clients who have substance use issues or mental health issues occasionally. Clients may not always be appropriate in language or conversation. They may lack social skills.
