Data Resource Analyst I

Position Summary

The Office of Undergraduate Education (UE) seeks an entry-level Data Analyst with an equity mindset, a passion for problem solving, and a commitment to student success to support initiatives within the unit. This position will work within the Data Analytics and Operations team within the UE division, the leadership of the units within the division, as well as UE partner units across campus. This position is eligible to be part of the Remote Friendly policy of Michigan State University and can be fully remote (within the United States), hybrid, or fully in-person.

The UE division oversees undergraduate education and facilitates institution-wide initiatives focused on enhancing undergraduate learning and student success. UE is comprised of direct student support programs like Migrant Student Services, New Student Orientation, and NSSC Pathway programs; Academic Support and Curriculum units like Academic Advising, First Year Seminars, Military Science, and Aerospace Studies; and campus-wide student success initiatives. We are committed to closing opportunity gaps for underserved students (first generation, low income, Black, Latinx, Native American/Indigenous, LGBTQI2S+, etc.) to reach our goal of an 86% graduation rate with no opportunity gaps by 2030. 

The successful candidate will have SQL, analytics and project management skills to support retrieving, merging, basic analysis, and reporting of data for the unit. They will support recurring and ad-hoc data requests from UE units. The candidate will be required to query against a variety of data sources using SQL language, merge different data sources together, conduct basic descriptive statistics, and develop reports of results for planning and decision-making as it relates to unit and university strategic plans for undergraduate education and DEI.

Unit Specific Education/Experience/Skills

Knowledge equivalent to that which normally would be acquired by completing one or two years of post-bachelor degree work, such as a Master's in Educational Administration, Statistics, Economics or Research Methodology; three to five years of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience in research design, statistical methods and knowledge of computer hardware and software; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
