CLASSIFICATION: Temporary, Full-Time, Non-Exempt
HOURS PER WEEK: 40
POSITION SUMMARY
The Stewardship and Development Office (SDO) has the pleasure of engaging the community in the good works of the Archdiocese of Omaha and inspiring support and leadership to spread the message of the Gospel to touch hearts. SDO hosts professional development events for parish, school, and organization leaders, oversees the Catholic Futures Foundation of Northeast Nebraska, raises scholarship funds for low-income students to attend Catholic schools and assists people who desire to leave a legacy gift to the archdiocese.
The Stewardship and Development Intern (SDO Intern) will assist the office with planning, implementation, and analysis of projects in the Stewardship and Development Office. To ensure a valuable experience for the SDO Intern, specific goals and objectives will be customized to the skills, abilities, and experience desired of the SDO Intern.
Prior SDO intern-led projects include photography and videography coordination and planning for the Archbishop’s Annual Appeal; review, rework and redesign of leadership training programs and supplemental materials; creation and implementation of the communication plan for the Archbishop’s Dinner for Education; donor research and rework of Archbishop’s Dinner for Education honoree selection processes and protocols.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
• Collaborate with the supervisor to determine the scope and timetable for the projects that will be assigned.
• Develop project plans as assigned and communicate to the supervisor; receive and respond to feedback on the project.
• Actively work with the staff to plan and implement the project.
• Keep a log of work performed and provide regular progress updates to supervisor.
• Research and assist with copywriting for marketing, public relations, digital and promotion materials.
• Assist with all aspects of data collection, reporting and analysis to move programs and events forward.
• Support SDO staff with implementation of major activities; particular focus includes communication and marketing strategies for:
o Archbishop’s Annual Appeal
o Archbishop’s Dinner for Education
o Legacy Planning Program
o Catholic Futures Foundation of Northeast Nebraska
o Stewardship and Development Education and Network Series
o Archbishop’s Committee for Development
o Support to archdiocesan parishes and schools
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
• Effectively conveys and receives ideas through writing and speaking; explains thoughts coherently and asks questions when clarification is needed.
• Manages multiple, simultaneous projects while producing high quality results; schedules and completes tasks according to their priority.
• Discretion and ability to keep knowledge gained from work in strict confidence.
• Ability to represent the Archdiocese of Omaha in a professional manner.
• Proficient in computer and keyboard skills as well as an ability to learn and effectively use software relevant to job duties (i.e., Microsoft Office Suite)
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
• Background in and/or knowledge of the Catholic Church with a demonstrated commitment to the mission and teachings of the Church.
• Degree or Area of Study: Journalism, Marketing, Public Relations, or Communications preferred.
• Year of Study: College Junior or Senior preferred.
