Job description
Position Overview:
Automation Engineer responsible for the Definition, Procurement and successful Commissioning of automated equipment in Knapheide. This position leads the resolution of current problems using controls, automated, and robotic solutions. Secures value added solutions by working with the internal stakeholders. Must demonstrate proficiency in robots and/or PLC programming; mechanical automated and semi-automated solutions; layout definition; and integrator-plant relationships.
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Define and roll-out best practices for robot programming.
- Define robot and PLC standard programming architecture.
- Define and roll out standard communication architecture to lead to SCADA and Industry 4.0
- Applies Troubleshoot and problem-solving techniques to address root causes.
- Define and roll out buyoff checklists and standard practices for equipment buyoff.
- Create, maintain and modify current robot or PLC programming.
- Create automated concepts and translate them to complete RFQs
- Troubleshoot and improve quality, throughput and safety on automated processes.
- Advises on equipment maintenance, monitoring and spare part requirements.
- Plans and executes using offline teaching or virtual commissioning.
Position Minimum Requirements:
- Knowledgeable of manufacturing metal-mechanic best practices, including welding, cutting, forming, stamping and assembly.
- Expert in Robotic or PLC programming. Fanuc and Rockwell as a plus; other are acceptable as well.
- Solidworks or another solid CAD package knowledge.
- Roboguide or other automated simulation software expertise e.g. (Process Simulate, Delmia, RobCAD, etc.)
- Metrics driven, organized and task oriented.
- Sc. in Electric, Electronics, Mechanical, Mechatronics, Manufacturing, Industrial or any related Engineering.
- Continuous Improvement experience.
Position Additional Requirements:
- Sc. in any industry related engineering.
- Robotics, PLCs or Welding certifications as trainer or Sr. Level.
- Experience in high volume, high model mix industries.
- 10 years of experience in similar role
Physical/Mental Requirements Needed to Perform the Essential Functions of the Position:
Normal standing, bending, walking or lifting ability associated with a manufacturing environment. Capable of working in an industrial manufacturing environment in proximity to sources of noise, weld flash, and metal dust. Must be capable of communicating verbally with individuals at all levels of the organization and have good critical reasoning, organization, and mechanical skills.
