Summary Performs scheduled/unscheduled maintenance and installation tasks on the physical plant, equipment and machinery, according to standards. Position requires demonstration of competency for all on-the-job activities that may have a direct or indirect affect on product safety, legality and/or quality.
Job Responsibilities - Responsible for smooth operation of all packaging machinery.
- Works from complex blueprints, drawings, written or verbal instructions.
- Makes standard shop computations relating to stress, strength of materials, centers of gravity, direction, rotation, speeds, etc.
- Capable of making complete machine overhaul, both mechanical and electrical, so that when the machine is placed in service it will function as required.
- Capable of making pre-arranged changeovers in the machines when going from one variety to a different variety.
- Dismantles and makes on the job repairs to the machine by replacing worn or damaged parts.
- Practices preventative maintenance by replacing worn or defective parts with items obtained from stock or produced by a machinist before they break or damage the product or the machine.
- Examines machines and mechanical equipment to locate and to diagnose the source of trouble in mechanical, electrical and pneumatic areas.
- Runs, inspects, adjusts and repairs, if necessary all packaging machinery prior to and during production run.
- Reports major problems to the Supervisor for decisions.
- Operates Powered Industrial equipment as needed.
- May supervise the work of helpers and apprentices on assignment.
- Follows established Company Policies & Procedures, Sanitary Codes, and Safety Requirements.
- Completes work orders as assigned.
- Completes daily work cards and other paperwork, documenting work activities and man hours.
- Performs other essential and non-essential duties as directed by supervision.
Desired Experience - At least two (2) years additional plant experience involving industrial equipment applications, a working knowledge of electronic controls, high speed packaging machinery, and basic knowledge of PLCs
- Four (4) year electromechanical apprenticeship or equivalent preferred but may be substituted with work experience.
- Competent with computers and software including Microsoft Windows, Microsoft Word and Excel.
- Experience with PM and work order systems.
Desired Education Associate Degree in Electronics/Electrical Technology and/or equivalent formal training and work experience.
