Job Summary/Purpose

Provides first-rate legal advice to and in support of Entergy’s Nuclear organization based on sound, considered judgment of relevant facts, law, and policies and procedures. Investigates potential misconduct by gathering and analyzing evidence in an unbiased, objective manner. Anticipates issues, develops effective ways of resolving them, and to the extent appropriate provides continued legal counsel through implementation. Proactively and effectively uses contacts and resources as necessary to accomplish goals. Functions effectively within the larger Company, providing direct support to the leadership of Entergy’s nuclear plants and staff/headquarters functions and supporting Entergy’s communications, investor relations, external reporting, and similar functions as they require information concerning nuclear operations and issues.

Job Duties/Responsibilities

  1. Responsible for conducting internal investigations into potential misconduct within the Nuclear Organization, to include gathering and weighing evidence, analyzing facts against Nuclear standards and requirements, and writing reports that clearly present investigation findings.

  2. Responsible for defending government investigations into the Nuclear Organization, including defending interviewees, gathering and producing relevant documents, managing internal responsive actions, and developing persuasive work product for presentation to government investigators.

  3. Responsible for handling routine tasks without supervision and solving difficult problems with minimal supervision.

  4. Responsible for applying legal principles and knowledge to analyzing business conduct and evaluating compliance with regulatory requirements.

  5. Must demonstrate in-depth expertise and substantial relevant experience. With only general guidance from supervisors or input from outside counsel, responsible for doing the following very well: analyzing key issues, organizing thoughts, advocating and presenting legal points; drafting all documents, negotiating necessary matters, and/or performing other assigned job functions.

  6. As appropriate, responsible for managing outside counsel effectively and efficiently.

  7. Responsible for effectively supervising paraprofessionals and administrative staff and managing other attorneys, whether internal or external. Must demonstrate interest in developing management skills.

  8. Responsible for functioning as a strong team player and demonstrating ability to lead project teams to successful resolution.

  9. Responsible for delivering difficult or controversial messages to a wide variety of both supportive and adversarial audiences in a highly skilled manner

  10. Responsible for practicing focused listening and respectful interaction with others.

  11. Provide legal analysis and advice concerning Nuclear Regulatory Commission regulation of nuclear plants

  12. Partner with internal peers including Internal Investigations, Nuclear Employee Concerns Program, and Human Resources; support internal and other investigations as needed; advise on proposed revisions to investigation procedure and policy

  13. Coordinate effectively with Entergy’s employment legal group on overlapping matters

  14. Keep key organizational functions (e.g., management, external affairs, investor relations) apprised of significant developments

Minimum Requirements

Minimum education required of the position

A Juris Doctorate is required

Minimum experience required of the position

Counsel: 4+ years in a law firm or in-house in the applicable area of expertise, i.e., Nuclear regulatory and nuclear investigations

Counsel Sr: 6+ years in a law firm or in-house in the applicable area of expertise, i.e., Nuclear regulatory and nuclear investigations

Minimum knowledge, skills, and abilities required of the position

Highly skilled in complex analysis and in trouble shooting/problem solving issues.

Established track record in nuclear investigations.

Solid grasp of rules, guidelines and Company policies governing issues in major practice area(s) or specialty relevant to Company.

Strong, persuasive written and oral communication skills and collaborative skills.

Detailed industry knowledge, including in-depth understanding of the Company’s strategic business values and objectives.
