Job description
Summary : The MEP Coordinator will lead the coordination efforts for various components, including mechanical, electrical, plumbing, fire/life safety, low voltage systems, and fire sprinkler scopes, within our commercial projects portfolio.
DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:
- The MEP Coordinator will collaborate closely with the Project Team and Senior Management, assuming responsibility for the following:
- Provide support for estimating, subcontractor bid reviews, scheduling, project logistics, and constructability reviews related to MEP systems.
- Assist in pre-construction activities by reviewing subcontract estimates and costs concerning design changes.
- Manage client contract requirements for HVAC, controls/automation, electrical, plumbing, process piping, medical gases, low voltage systems, fire/life safety, and fire protection installations.
- Review MEP-related shop drawings and submittals for compliance and completeness.
- Implement and manage the MEP coordination process to resolve system conflicts prior to installation, involving collaboration with the Building Information Modeling (BIM) manager.
- Conduct and lead MEP pre-installation meetings for MEP trades.
- Assist in developing commissioning plans for all MEP systems, specifying test requirements, inspections, factory start-up, acceptance testing, project documentation, and integrated test plans.
- Ensure field Quality Control of MEP systems to meet all contract requirements during fieldwork execution.
- Troubleshoot and assist project teams with field installation conflicts and issues.
- Oversee on-site coordination for MEP systems, including start-up, balancing, commissioning, validation certification, owner training, and project closeout.
- Develop equipment maintenance and service schedules to support client post-construction requirements.
- Assist Senior Management with post-construction and warranty support related to MEP system performance.
- Undertake any other duties as required by Senior Management and the project team.
QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS: The successful candidate should be a flexible, detail-oriented team player capable of managing multiple tasks, producing quality work, and meeting deadlines. Key qualifications include:
- Solid understanding of construction sequences and scheduling for mechanical, electrical, and plumbing trades.
- Proficiency in mechanical, electrical, and plumbing engineering concepts and applicable codes.
- Familiarity with life safety, fire alarm/sprinkler systems, and their integration with MEP building systems.
- Ability to collaborate with multiple stakeholders to identify and resolve complex issues in MEP construction.
- Knowledge of building automation systems and sequences in relation to MEP construction.
- Understanding of test & balance and MEP commissioning processes and procedures.
- Familiarity with Building Information Modeling (BIM) and clash detection protocol using Navisworks.
- Ability to conduct and manage complex meetings, issue minutes promptly, and follow up with participants for deliverables.
- Excellent listening, communication, and conflict resolution skills.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- Bachelor’s degree in construction management or mechanical/electrical engineering preferred.
- 10+ years of experience in commercial mechanical systems installation.
- 10+ years of exposure to commercial electrical and plumbing systems installation.
- Industry experience in the installation and commissioning of commercial MEP building systems.
- Ability to identify and resolve complex issues.
- Proficient computer skills with Microsoft Office Suite, Procore, and Navisworks.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Walk, climb stairs, and climb ladders for overhead inspections.
- Exposure to various work conditions, including weather, fumes, dust, and moving mechanical parts.
- Must be able to lift and/or move 50 pounds.
