Job Description

Ohio University Lancaster is seeking candidates for Assistant Professor of Instruction in Nursing, Nursing Skills Lab emphasis, non-tenure track, available August 16 2024. Teaching will be primarily at the BSN degree level. Successful candidates will be required to be on campus and/or at regionally located clinical site assignments on a nine month annually renewable contract.


The majority of this role is teaching and will be dedicated to duties that include didactic, clinical, lab and simulation instruction. This position works closely with other nursing faculty to plan, implement and evaluate student learning experiences. Develops, implements, and evaluates laboratory and simulated learning activities. Service activities will occur within the School of Nursing (SON), the College, the Regional Campus, and the discipline of nursing. Service activities will include, but may not be limited to SON committees, special assignments, active participation in professional groups, and relevant community activities. Candidate must demonstrate personal and professional qualities of civility, diligence, professionalism, stability, integrity, and creativity. Directly reports to the program site Associate Director of Nursing.

Functions and Responsibilities:

1) Identifies needs of learners relative to the objectives of the program.

2) Prepares instructional guidelines for procedures and learning activities.

3) Provides student instruction and evaluation for skills/procedures.

4) Collaborates with course faculty colleagues and Associate Director/School Director to ensure instructional resources meet the nursing program’s needs.

5) Works with course faculty colleagues to plan activities to meet course objectives, to discuss student, concerns, to evaluate students’ progress, and to determine actions needed.

6) Works with other faculty colleagues to cultivate a lab environment conducive to learning.
7) Develops, implements and evaluates nursing simulated learning experiences.

8) Assists students referred by course faculty colleagues in the development and implementation of remediation plans related to the academic or psychomotor skill performance of nursing students.
9) Participates in nursing faculty/committee meetings, and nursing course meetings.

10) Serves as a liaison with community partners to maintain current practices in compliance with contemporary educational practices.

11) Serves as a liaison with the Pharmacy Board and ensures compliance with their policy and procedures and ensures appropriate collaborative practices.

12) Facilitates maintenance of equipment and instructional lab resources for the lab.

13) Submits orders for equipment and supplies to the Associate Director.
14) Performs and maintains an annual inventory of nursing lab equipment and supplies.

15) Prepares the setup of specific skills labs for instructional purposes.

16) Maintains data base of companies to use for required lab equipment and supplies.
17) Contacts companies as necessary regarding equipment and supplies for the lab.

18) Promotes and maintains a positive and collaborative working environment and for students and faculty.

Minimum Qualifications

Graduate of an accredited School of Professional Nursing.

Master’s Degree in Nursing or related health field from an accredited school of professional nursing is required by the time of application.

At least three (3) years in the practice of nursing as a registered nurse. Minimum of two years (24 months full time equivalent) of clinical nursing experience in the United States is required.


Must hold a current unencumbered nursing license or be eligible for licensure in the State of Ohio as a registered nurse. Faculty may be asked to obtain licensure in other states where nursing students attend clinical experiences.



Preferred Qualifications

At least five (5) years of experience in the nursing profession with at least two (2) years as a faculty member in an ADN or BSN program is preferred.

A doctorate in nursing or a related field is preferred.
