About the role:
The business development manager is primarily responsible for discovering and closing new business development opportunities for state, federal, and local government industry within a specified region, consistent with the business and financial goals of NYSTEC. This position works collaboratively with the director business development and strategic relationships and with other business development managers to identify and capture business within the state, federal, and local government. The results of this work have a significant impact on the achievement of organizational goals and objectives.
Key Responsibilities
- Support and contribute to the annual business goal 1:1 key performance indicator (KPI).
- Identify new areas of opportunity within New York state and local government and within the federal government where possible.
- Interact with prospective new clients (NYS agencies, federal and local governments, other states, etc.) to ensure an understanding of NYSTEC service offerings and to develop new business opportunities.
- Provide account management of new clients that generate new business opportunities for the company.
- Work closely with service delivery to transition accounts where appropriate.
- Represent NYSTEC at select events as determined by the director of business development and strategic relationships.
- Identify areas where NYSTEC can show value through thought leadership. Recommend events based on the research and thought leadership.
- Understand NYSTEC’s value proposition and effectively communicate that to prospective clients at meetings or at events and conferences.
- Collaborate with leadership team members and service delivery to coordinate to identify new areas opportunities and partner with service delivery on new opportunities.
- Develop new — and cultivate existing — relationships with NYSTEC business partners, including minority- and women-owned businesses.
- Participate in and develop organizational culture, values, and reputation in NYSTEC’s markets and with all staff, clients, and partners.
- Demonstrate the NYSTEC Core Values and Behaviors and champion them among colleagues.
- Other duties as assigned.
About you:
- State and local government entity expertise. This includes experience with large government contracts, including professional services contract terms and conditions and a network of industry contacts.
- Presents a professional and business-like image to clients, visitors, and the public.
- Strong computer skills, including experience using Microsoft applications (Project, PowerPoint, Word, Excel, Outlook, Visio, SharePoint) or equivalent and web browsers.
- Strong understanding of the professional services industry, including an understanding of finance and accounting principles associated with professional services organizations.
- Strong knowledge of all services delivered by NYSTEC and attuned to trends and emerging developments.
- Ability to achieve annual revenue targets.
- Understands NYSTEC’s mission, brand mindsets, and the NYSTEC Core Values and Behaviors well enough to serve as a role model. Encourages and supports staff in aligning behavior and actions with the NYSTEC Core Values and Behaviors.
Education/Certifications
- A bachelor’s degree in a business or technology related field and 10-plus years of relevant experience, including expert knowledge of the information technology industry, proposal writing, contracts management, business development and sales, and building strong teams.
- An equivalent combination of advanced education, training, and experience will be considered.
The pay range for this position will be $121,355.00- $166,863.40 per year.
