Community/Clinical Support

• Serve as a resource for teachers, advisors, staff, and parents regarding the social, emotional, and behavioral well-being of students in grades 7-12. 
• Work individually with students, providing short-term, on-site assessment and support to those in need and managing intervention for those in crisis, including arranging for outside referral for longer term care. 
• Work with Learning Specialists and faculty to identify and respond to students’ academic needs in light of mental health concerns (ISP recommendations, classroom accommodations and supports, etc.), and with N-6 counselor and division heads to support crisis management and care for students.

Student support Team

• Collaborate closely with division heads, faculty, advisors, and members of the Health and Wellness Team (N-6 Counselor, Academic Learning Specialists, Director of Health and Wellness, and School Nurses) to provide wrap-around services and a continuum of care, and to make decisions around medical leaves.
• Work collaboratively with School Nurse and/or privately contracted therapists in tiered approach for case management.
• Work closely and collaboratively with Division Heads around student discipline when student’s mental health is involved.

Student Enrollment/Transition/Retention

• When needed, assist Admissions in discerning prospective student needs; support the admission/enrollment/transition of students and families new to MB; support divisional student transition from grades 8 to 9.
• Coordinate transition meetings between divisions for students of concern.  These meetings may include parents, students and newly assigned advisers or division head.
• Ensure relevant information regarding student needs/history is shared with advisorrs/faculty as needed.

Programming and other responsibilities

• Work with the Director of Wellness and division heads to create and deliver lessons for middle and upper school students on wellness topics and coordinate parent educational sessions, facilitate annual depression screening and suicide education/prevention program with 7th, 8th and 9th graders, and support conversation on suicide awareness and mental health in MS and US advisories (grades 7-12) .
• Support various campus groups when needed, including Diversity Committee, Quaker Life, GSA, the StressLess club, and KyleCares.
• Offer professional development to colleagues on wellness, student support, mental health, self-care, trauma, or other relevant topics as needed.

The Counselor should have a Mast ers Degree or higher in a relevant field and evidence of license or certification (e.g. LMFT, LCSW/LICSW, LMHC or School Counseling) .  A minimum of five years’ experience working with students in a school setting is preferred.  The ability to effectively support and advocate for students and families across a diversity of backgrounds and experiences is essential to this role.  The successful counselor will benefit from effective time management, communication, collaboration, and an openness to centering Quaker values and decision-making processes in their practice.
