Assistant Professor of Art - Graphic Design

Hiring Department

The University of Texas Permian Basin's Department of Arts welcomes applications for the position of Assistant Professor of Art & Graphic Design to begin August 2024

Salary Range

Depending on qualifications

Essential Functions

This is an appointment within the Department of Arts. The candidate will primarily teach undergraduate graphic design and general education courses as assigned by their supervisor based on the department's need. The individual will report to the Department Chair.
The Department of Arts seeks an individual who can teach and recruit for the department and is willing to work with students, faculty, and staff to enrich the departments mission.

Duties and responsibilities include: Required Qualifications

1. Master's degree (MFA) in a design-related field

Preferred Qualifications

1. Demonstrated ability to teach graphic design, animation, and web design including online and in-person classes.
2. Applicant must have strong skills in Adobe Creative Suite: Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign and be able to teach classes demonstrating this software.
3. Working knowledge of HTML and UX/UI preferred.

Students enrolled in any of our programs can contribute to the beautiful art installations around campus. The University is accredited by the National Association of Schools of Art and Design (NASAD). The Department of Art offers BA and BFA degrees in Studio Art, a BA degree with a graphic design concentration and a BA degree with all-levels certification in Education. In addition, the department hosts minors in Art History, Studio Art, and Graphic Design.

3. Teaching philosophy
4. Syllabi of courses taught (at least 2 syllabus)
5. Portfolio with 20 images including Image List (or link to your website) and 10-20 images of student work if applicable in a PDF format.
6. Complete contact information for three (3) professional references
7. Copies of all graduate/undergraduate transcripts

Conditions of Employment

4. Employees must be able and willing to travel and perform duties away from campus as necessary and must be able to operate a licensed motor vehicle, have access to a dependable motor vehicle, and possess a valid state driver's license. Must have and maintain a satisfactory driver's record.

Schedule

Generally, the normal work hours for the university are Monday through Thursday, 7:30 - 5:30 pm; Friday, 8:00 am - 12:00 pm with a one-hour lunch. The individual holding this position may need to be available to teach early morning, afternoons, and evenings to meet the needs of the department.

Standard Working Conditions

1. Able to lift various materials up to 25 pounds on an occasional basis.
2. Able to bend, crouch, and reach continuously.
3. Physically able remain seated, frequently to continuously.
4. Able to remain standing up to 15% of the time.
5. Possesses dexterity abilities required to perform job duties including extensive keyboard work, operating office equipment, performing filing, and other job-related responsibilities that include extensive wrist and hand movement.
6. Standard working conditions may differ depending on department and occupation.
