Assistant Market Manager
Starting Hourly Rate: $18.68
Work Schedule: 18-29 hours per week. Must be available to work Wednesdays and Saturdays, including early morning hours. May include evening hours or other days for special events. Teleworking is possible on non-market days.
Assist the Market Manager and the Assistant Market Manager II/Outreach Coordinator in the operation of the Wednesday and Saturday Markets. This involves market set-up and take-down, placement of signs and barriers, disposal of trash/recycling/compost, keeping the market office and restrooms clean and neat, and other responsibilities. Administrative tasks include creating daily rent receipts for vendors, collecting daily fees, answering the office phone, processing credit card and SNAP/EBT transactions for the market token currency program, processing market currency reimbursement for vendors, and other related tasks. Aid Market Manager and Assistant Market Manager II/Outreach Coordinator in managing special events and volunteers. Assist with marketing efforts and vendor promotion (e.g., vendor spotlights, social media content, flyering, etc.)
Required Qualifications: - Strong communication skills, familiarity with office equipment and procedures, and enthusiasm to work with market staff, vendors, and the public.
- Ability to work with minimum supervision and to adapt to hectic conditions.
- Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions for long periods of time.
- Must obtain CPR/AED and First Aid certification within 30 days of employment. The City offers CPR/AED and First Aid classes, which are free to Parks employees. Please note, your certification must be from an organization that has been approved by the Bureau of Community and Health Systems, Child Care Licensing Division. Please see link for list of approved organizations.
Preferred Qualifications: - Experience with farmers markets and/or knowledge of local food systems.
- Experience with food access, food justice, or food sovereignty initiatives.
- Knowledge of Mandarin language would be helpful.
