Job Description:

This is an advanced journeyman position that requires superior technical skills to successfully perform complex repairs, technical diagnostic analysis, modifications, and installation of electronic, electrical, and pneumatic controls on HVAC Energy Management Systems, air and hydronic distribution systems, and balancing associated with HVAC and refrigeration systems within all research, academic and administrative facilities on the LSU Campus. In addition, the position performs Lead-worker duties, covers supervisory absences, all the duties associated with all HVAC craft classifications, and other craft skills as required.

Job Duties:

50% - Utilizes superior technician skills to perform complex repairs, inspections, troubleshooting, calibrations, adjustments, modifications, installation, technical diagnostic analysis, etc., in conjunction with other craft personnel, on complex computerized energy management systems, electrical systems, pneumatic and hydronic instruments & controls, starters, disconnects, and switch gear on HVAC & refrigeration systems, examines, tests, and modifies mechanisms including disassembly & repair as required to ensure that systems function within specific standards.

10% - Updates Energy Management System (EMS); updates HVAC schedules, set points, and enters override commends when needed. Monitors system to balance HVAC need throughout the entire campus.

10% - Troubleshoots and repairs motor starters, electrical control circuits, zero speed switches, interlock systems, etc. and use test equipment such as oscilloscopes, volt, ohm meters, etc.

10% - Troubleshoots and independently performs repairs on card access systems, boiler controls, and other electronic devices/systems.

10% - Reads, interprets and works with advance level circuit schematics, and vendor literature in new installations and the diagnosing and repair of electronic components

10% - Performs other duties as assigned by the Department including on-call and emergency work when needed.


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Three years of experience in the maintenance or repair of mechanical or electronic office equipment, precision machinery, or electronic and electrical systems or in the installation, repair or maintenance of computer equipment or systems (hardware and/or software).


SUBSTITUTIONS:
Training in a vocational-technical school or military school will substitute for a maximum of two years of the required experience on the basis of one year of training for one year of experience.


College training with at least six semester hours per year in electronics or computer science will substitute for the experience on the basis of thirty semester hours for one year of experience.


CompTIA A+ Certification will substitute for one year of the required experience.


NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENT:
Must possess an appropriate Federal Communications Commission (FCC) radio-telephone license when working with marine and aviation transmitting equipment or with radar.


May be required to have technician certification by the National Association of Business and Educational Radio (NABER).


May be required to possess a valid Louisiana driver's license at the time of appointment.


NOTE:
The maintenance or repair of electronic or electrical systems includes the repair or maintenance of radio or television broadcasting equipment; or electronic equipment such as radios, televisions or VCRs.


NOTE:
Any college hours or degree must be from an accredited college or university.

Special or Physical Qualifications:

Due to the nature of this position and/or position responsibilities this position shall be subject to drug/alcohol testing in accordance with University Policy Statement 67.
In accordance with University Policy Statement 18, this position is considered essential and may be required to report or stay on campus in the event of an emergency or closure.
Must have a valid driver's license. Must be able to lift 50 lbs, be capable of stooping, kneeling, or crouching; able to reach and/or climb a ladder. Due to the position's physical requirements, a pre-employment physical examination will be required per FASOP: HR-04.
