Ames Laboratory is seeking candidates to fulfill the role of Security Services Assistant (Program Assistant III.) Reporting directly to the Security Services Coordinator, this position supports safeguard and security activities as described in Ames Laboratory’s prime contract and applicable DOE Orders, Directives, and regulations. This position also includes, but may not be limited to, administering the Laboratory’s Local Site Specific Only (LSSO) credential issuance, support of the Homeland Security Presidential Directive 12 (HSPD-12) Personnel Identity Verification (PIV) credential issuance, and administrative coordination.

The Security Services Assistant will partner with Human Resources and laboratory management to sponsor and issue LSSO and HSPD-12 PIV credentials for new employees and associates; coordinate certificate sponsorship, management, and termination; initiate and facilitate background investigations, information collection, and adjudications utilizing DOE applications (USAccess and eAPP); address lost and misplaced credentials and the associated reporting; support the completion of data calls and report generation related to HSPD-12 PIV credentialing; and support PIV use for personnel access in the Ames Laboratory Personnel Access Control System (PACS). In addition to the LSSO credential, the Security Services Specialist will also issue, track, manage, and terminate HSPD-12 PIV credentials.

This position administers the LSSO and Visitor Management programs and is responsible for the monitoring, data management, and compliance of applicable procedures listed in DOE Order 472.2A, Personnel Security, DOE O 470.4B, Safeguards and Security Program, and DOE O 473.1A, Physical Protection Program. The Security Services Specialist will also support the Security Services Coordinator and SES Director as needed.

Responsibilities will include interpreting guidance, creating new applicable policies, monitoring activity, leading projects within program scope, and communicating to all levels of Ames Laboratory.

The successful candidate will possess excellent organizational capabilities, written and verbal communication skills and the ability to work with a diverse clientele in executing safeguard and security programs. A proactive approach, with the ability to analyze situations, solve problems, advise management, and develop policies and procedures within the assigned program responsibilities will be important to be successful in this position. The candidate should also have the ability to use computer software for the preparation of computer-based training, database applications, work processing, virtual meetings, PowerPoint presentations, communication, report writing and/or data analysis. Current DOE security clearance or ability to security DOE security clearance within one yar of employment.
