The Position





Bargaining Unit: Local 21 - Supervisory Management


Contra Costa County Public Works Department (CCCPWD) maintains over 660 miles of roads, 150 miles of streams, channels, and over 200 County buildings throughout Contra Costa County. CCCPWD provides services such as Parks and Recreation, Sandbag Distribution and Flood Control throughout unincorporated areas of Contra Costa County.

Under general direction, the Public Works Assistant Field Operations Manager plans, monitors and assess annual road and flood control maintenance programs; and performs other related duties as required.


The Public Works Assistant Field Operations Manager has responsibility for road and flood control maintenance strategic planning, systematic improvement of work processes and coaching and mentoring line supervisors to enhance general management, supervision and technical skills. The Public Works Assistant Field Operations Manager is distinguished from Public Works Field Operations Manager in that the latter has responsibility for overall management of the field operations. It is also further distinguished from Public Works Maintenance Supervisor in that the latter has direct responsibility for a defined geographic or functional area. This classification reports to the Public Works Field Operations Manager.


The Public Works Department is currently recruiting to fill two (2) vacant positions for the Public Works Assistant Field Operations Manager classification.

Management Responsibilities:



Minimum Qualifications

License Required: Possession of a valid California Motor Vehicles Operator's License. Out of state valid motor vehicle operator's license will be accepted during the application process.



Education: Possession of a high school diploma, G. E. D. equivalency or a high school proficiency certificate.



Experience: Six (6) years of full-time (or the equivalent of full-time) experience maintaining roads, road structures, and/or flood control facilities for a public or private agency, two (2) years of which must have included work equivalent to a Contra Costa County Public Works Maintenance Supervisor or Vegetation Management Supervisor.



Other Requirements: Employees in this class may be subject to drug and alcohol testing under provisions of the County's Drug and Alcohol Testing Program.

DISASTER SERVICE WORKER

All Contra Costa County employees are designated Disaster Service Workers through state and local law. Employment with the County requires the affirmation of a loyalty oath to this effect. Employees are required to complete all Disaster Service Worker-related training as assigned, and to return to work as ordered in the event of an emergency.
