JOB SUMMARY


ENGINEERING ASSISTANT


MONTHLY SALARY: $4,678.95 - $6,270.24


4/10 WORK SCHEDULE (MON-THURS 7:30 AM - 6:00 PM)

THE IDEAL CANDIDATE

The City of Baldwin Park is looking for an individual that can evaluate and manage diverse projects, and can communicate clearly with consultants, developers, contractors and the public. The ideal candidate will be highly organized, have excellent customer service skills, and will be familiar with civil engineering and road design software and have experience with general civil engineering design projects.



THE POSITION:
Under general direction, perform journey level and entry level engineering work relative to land development, capital projects design and construction, and traffic engineering; responsible for administrative and technical tasks in connection with permitting, public counter assistance, phone assistance of technical nature, storage and maintenance of plans and files, construction inspection, surveying, and miscellaneous field work; performs sub-professional and professional civil engineering work of basic complexity in connection with design, construction, and maintenance of streets, utilities, public works improvements, and land development activities; provides support to other engineering staff by preparing estimates & calculations, writing specifications, and performing design work utilizing standard drawing equipment and AutoCAD; and coordinates input and maintenance of databases, computer technology, and GIS.



DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS:
This is a journey level through entry level position within the engineering series. Positions in this class possess a combination of education, training, and/or experience to perform entry level professional engineering.


SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED:
Receives general supervision from the engineering supervisor and may exercise functional supervision over clerical staff.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS


EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND EXPERIENCE GUIDELINES:

LICENSE OR CERTIFICATE:
Must possess a valid California Class "C" driver's license upon appointment and as a condition of continued employment. Bilingual capability in the Spanish language is highly desirable.
