General Summary:
Supervises all operational activities for the Emergency Room. Identifies and solves problems and complaints from patients, visitors, and staff within scope of responsibility. Coordinates admitting procedures with activities of other departments. Assists Manager of the Emergency Room in development and implementation of department objectives and programs. Implements the Hospital’s admission policies through appropriate registration and bed assignment procedures. Performs technical duties of all supervised staff as necessary.
Supports the Mission of Trinity Health and Holy Cross Hospital.
Minimum Licensure/Certification Required (if applicable):
None.
Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required:
Four-year college degree or equivalent experience.
At least one-year supervisory experience in patient registration/health care setting and 3-5 years’ hospital experience.
Working knowledge of computerized admitting systems, medical terminology, and third party payors.
Proven organizational skills.
Outstanding customer service/hospitality skills.
Ability to adapt to flexible working schedule.
Will be required to work at least two weekends per month.
Strong computer skills. e.g. Microsoft products, GroupWise. The supervisor has primary responsibility to ensure that departmental and organizational policies are consistently communicated and that practice within their area of responsibility is aligned with these expectations. The supervisor is also the primary management contact for staff concerns, and directly oversees the communication of organizational objectives to the staff. Communication skills and the ability to educate staff are important elements of this job. Working Conditions: Physical Requirements : Medium work. Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 30 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Visual Acuity : The worker is required to have close visual acuity to perform an activity such as: preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing a computer terminal; extensive reading; visual inspection involving small defects, small parts, and/or operation of machines (including inspection); using measurement devices; and/or assembly or fabrication parts at distances close to the eyes.
Environmental Conditions : None. The worker is not substantially exposed to adverse environmental conditions (such as in typical office or administrative work.)
Reporting Relationship:
Minimal supervision. Reports to Manager of the Emergency Room.
