JOB SUMMARY

Under the supervision of the Senior Philanthropy Officer , the Director of Philanthropy has the responsibility for raising revenue for BGCA through major gifts. The Director of Philanthropy will establish and execute best practices to build major gift s and develop a robust portfolio to meet aggressive annual goals, as well as goals within context of larger BGCA comprehensive campaign, and will build a robust major gifts pipeline of prospects and donors . This position will have primary responsibility for the de velopment of their own major gift portf o lio to be sourced from referrals, event attendees, and highly rated prospects from integrated direct response strategies .

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

• Personally identify and manage a portfolio of 70-90 primary prospects ( primarily M idwest & Special Fundraising Initiatives) , raising individually $1M - $3M .  
• Ensure the cultivation, stewardship and solicitation of Major Gifts and consistent movement in pipeline.  
• Build out special fundraising group initiatives that drive sustainable growth for the Individual Giving RD team including, but not limited to: Event attendee s & Corporate partnership individuals , Focused Philanthropy Groups – Alumni, Celebrities, Women, Native Services , etc. and Targeted donor groups – BGCA Vendors, In-Kind donors , Club Collaborative Giving etc.  
• Portfolio management, KPIs, Annual Goals are trackable year over year with easy-to-understand Dashboards in our CRM .  
• Works with RVPS of Field Ops, DODs and CEOs of Clubs to discover Major Donors and collaborative donor partnership with Clubs that have the interest , ability national capacity to support BGCA mission and programs .  
• Review innovative fundraising trends and best practices in the non-profit field and works with Managing Director & Senior Philanthropy Officer of Individual Giving to implement strategies that strengthen our fundraising abilities  
• Ensure and be accountable to annual Individual Giving goals are met through w eekly donor report out s /accountability/ brain storming session s .  
• Participate and record in all aspects of the gift cycle:  

• Identification  
• Initiate contacts  
• Develop appropriate cultivation strategies for all prospects with potential of $10K and above.  
• Proposal Development, S olicitation and follow up  
• Secure an investment

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES  

• Work as a productive member of the Resource Development team and with other departments of the national BGCA staff.  
• Perform other fundraising activities as assigned by the National Vice President, Development.  
• Demonstrate BGCA mission driven I*CARE values, and integrate these beliefs into our environment and ways of work

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE  

• Bachelor’s degree in a related discipline or education/experience equivalency .  
• Minimum of six years demonstrated successful experience managing individual giving from major gift s developing and stewarding a major gifts portfolio . Successful track record of recruiting and working with high level volunteer Board and committee members to meet fundraising objectives and with planning, managing and initiating solicitations . Must have experience closing six and seven figure asks and in strategies for donor moves management . High yield committee fundraising experience is essential . Experience planning meaningful strategic individual donor cultivation and stewardship is a must .  

SKILLS  

• Demonstrated ability to create relationship and grow partnerships is a must ; excellent verbal and written communication skills; strong interpersonal skills; knowledge of successful fundraising practices; intermediate Microsoft Word, database /CRM ( Sales f orce ), research and spreadsheet skills; demonstrated understanding and utilization of fundraising techniques to identify, solicit and steward gifts from various donor sources (i.e., individuals, corporations, foundations).  

ABILITIES  

• High energy level , c omfortable performing multi-faceted projects in conjunction with day-to day activities, good reasoning abilities, sound judgment and the ability to work under time pressures. Ability to work without the need for immediate supervision. Physical requirements include sight, hearing, sitting for more than four hours a day and other physical requirements required performing the essential functions in this position

ENVIRONMENTAL & WORKING CONDITIONS

• Normal internal working environment .   
• T ravel estimated at 30% (can be 10 days or more in a month - including weekends - depending upon scheduling requirements) . The individual selected for this position must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license and be able to navigate areas of the country or abroad by using electric direction methods . Ability to travel by subway, car or airplane .
