Position Summary:

According to established procedures, assists physicians by treating patients with prescribed doses of ionizing radiation supplied and controlled through specialized radiation equipment. In doing so, prepares treatment room, explains procedures to patients, positions patients and administers treatments and obtains images. Monitors patients during therapy sessions to ensure patients' comfort and to observe changes in patients' condition. Simulates patient treatment according to the treatment plan and designs and constructs custom treatment devices for individual patients. Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide patient care that is appropriate to the ages of the patients served. Participates in a variety of clerical duties necessary for department functioning.

Qualifications:

EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS Associates, Bachelors, or Masters Degree in Radiation Therapy CERTIFICATION & LICENSURE REQUIREMENTS Illinois Emergency Management Association (IEMA) Radiation Therapy License upon hire. Radiation Therapy (T)(ARRT) upon hire. Basic Life Support (BLS) within 30 days of hire. EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS Meets the current requirements of the Illinois Emergency Management Association, Department of Nuclear Safety, experience organizing multiple tasks, working with diverse groups of people. Ability to work independently and self-direct work activities. Detail oriented and able to meet established deadlines. ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS

SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE Knowledge of the operational methods and safety standards of equipment producing ionizing radiation within the department (i.e. Linear Accelerator and Simulator). Working knowledge of radiation safety and current rules and regulation of the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC). Must successfully complete in-hospital orientation and competencies. Demonstrates skill, organization, and efficiency in performing required activities.
