Demonstrated expertise in program and project management for information technology and/or business process change projects, including developing project schedules and budgets, tracking progress and costs, and producing status reports and metrics dashboards for varied audiences.
Experience leading the strategic and operational planning process for delivering financial systems within a large, complex organization, and in hiring, developing, and leading high-performing teams.
Excellent oral and written communication skills.
Ability to build strong relationships across stakeholder groups, including "c-level" audiences, technical and functional (business) leadership, team members, and third-party vendors. Strong work ethic, analytical and problem-solving skills.

Position Description:Reporting to the Senior Director of Administrative Systems in Harvard University Information Technology (HUIT) Administrative Technology Services (ATS), the Director for Financial Management Systems at Harvard will oversee critical enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems and related integration with other third-party products. The Director serves as a trusted advisor to business partners in Central Administration and the Schools to ensure the technology ecosystem meets their evolving needs.
Success in this role requires a strong grasp of financial principles, practices, and processes, including general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, budgeting, financial planning and reporting, analytics, and consolidation. It also requires a solid working knowledge of functional areas outside HUIT and works with the respective department leadership, including the Office of Treasury Management, Office of the Controller, Office of Finance and Administration, Office of Financial Strategy and Planning, Capital Planning, and Strategic Procurement.
The Director is pivotal in guiding strategic decisions by interpreting data, offering insights, and aligning department goals with broader objectives of the University's financial system needs. The role involves crafting operational and system roadmaps, spearheading improvements, and collaborating across teams.
They will also provide a hands-on role with the direct oversight of managers, business analysts, and developers that support institutional configuration, financial transactions, business processes, integrations, and customizations.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities (Essential Functions*):
Collaborate with the Financial Administration Systems Leadership team on organizational priorities and long-range departmental planning.
Foster a culture of innovation, encouraging ownership from both developers and management for product vision, technical architecture, and project delivery.
Define and execute roadmaps for enterprise finance systems, ensuring the adoption of up-to-date technologies, multi-year technology planning, and annual capital project requests.
Meet frequently with product managers, product owners, and business analysts to provide direction and advice regarding the ongoing support and enhancement of the Financial Services offerings.
Develop effective relationships with business stakeholders through a strong understanding of business processes and desired business objectives.
Partner with senior business leadership to analyze existing business processes and identify areas for applying additional/new application functionality.
Drive end-to-end Enterprise Finance Systems Integration and data strategy.
Spearhead various business process analysis and re-design processes to ensure Harvard's ability to capture value from information systems.
Provide leadership in all phases of proposed new initiatives, including business case development, proposal development, organizational and team design, stakeholder engagement, etc.
Manage the resource allocation process, including skills and availability matrices, matching appropriate resources to requests, and communicating allocations to senior leadership, resource managers, and staff members.
Lead system and process improvement across ATS, HUIT, and business stakeholders, and the ongoing governance for financial management systems, including executive governance, communities of practice, user groups, etc.
Actively participate in the Financial Administration Systems Leadership and Financial Systems Executive Committee.
Participate in building knowledge of Cloud ERP platforms to inform the future strategy.
