Job Summary and Mission
This job contributes to the success of UMD by leading a team to create and maintain an exceptional experience for our guests. Dining Services is dedicated to supporting and improving the student and community experience by providing delicious food, excellent services, and exceptional value while advancing the Universityâ™s mission and goals.

General Description 
A lead manager of a small group of managers, a team of hourly employees and  student workers. May assess performance of others and have formal supervisory responsibilities. This position regularly demands a variable schedule, including mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays. This position often requires work over 40 hours per week. This is the fourth level within the Campus Operations Job Family and is responsible for providing support and expertise in a specific area(s) of campus operations. 

Independence and Decision Making 
The Dining Services Lead Manager is required to regularly and customarily exercise discretion in managing the overall operation of their unit. In particular, a majority of time is present supervising and directing the team, making staffing decisions, ensuring guest satisfaction, product quality, managing the unt's financial performance, and managing safety and security within the unit.


Complexity and Problem Solving 
Problems are not amenable to strict technical resolution. Problem resolution and project  completion involve substantial planning and scheduling in order to obtain and align resources  when and where needed.

35%Team Management
Besides coordinating activities in the areas under their purview, the Lead Manager is responsible for the leadership and oversight of a small team of managers, full time team members, and student workers. The Lead Manager ensures that work outcomes are in alignment with the strategies of the department and/or unit. They are the lead resource and provide expertise on key customer issues, team staffing and manager, operations, and University/department policies and procedures. They model how we work together using their leadership style to bring the UMD Dining Services Mission and Vision to life for your teams, modeling collaboration, inclusiveness, confidence in leadership, and teamwork, that all move us toward business success.
Incumbents in this classification may have the authority to perform or to effectively recommend  the following actions: hire, transfer, suspend, promote, discharge, assign work, reward, discipline, direct the work of other employees, and adjust grievances. 


25% Operational Excellence
Responsible for production, service, staffing, adherence, and analysis of the dining services  department. Includes food procurement, preparation, training, recipe adaptation, menu  development and nutrition/allergen planning. Enforces health, safety, and sanitation policies and procedures.


25% Service Excellence
Provides service  oversight with an emphasis on creating a welcoming environment for customers and establishing  successful customer recovery and appreciation.


15% Financial Excellence
Responsible for budget estimates, forecasting  customers and food volume, costing, inventory and ordering, waste reduction, and financial  analyses.
