HEALTH EDUCATOR 3 (Allied Health Support Technician) Job Summary
Department Purpose Allied Health Support Technicians must be flexible and open to assisting in various tasks they may not be accustomed to. An AHSTs successful integration into the community will be reliant on a positive attitude, compassionate interpersonal skills, and genuine interest in public service. AHSTs are responsible for completing tasks associated with non-emergency response activities, wellness and preventive health education, and community outreach.
AHSTs apply skills from many aspects of public health, medicine, and behavioral health fields.
Job Summary The Allied Health Support Technician (AHST) will work under general supervision of the EMS Captain/Pre-hospital Care Coordinator within the UCDFD EMS/Pre-Hospital Care Division and will be provided additional day-to-day direction by the UCDFD Allied Health Provider assigned to Health 34.
The AHST will provide support for proactive, preventive care and health education through an integrated, multi-disciplinary approach that is intended to help improve the overall health and wellness of the campus community in the space before and after a 911 call. The AHST will support the AHP in situational assessment, referral, and follow-up for community members to navigate them to the appropriate resource for services related to medical care, behavioral health, and basic needs.
The AHST will work in conjunction with a UCDFD AHP and other medical, behavioral health, and basic needs providers to support the development of an individualized plan of care for community members requesting support. Will also work with other members of the UC Davis Fire Department and a diverse set of campus partners to provide outreach education to the community-at-large.
Primary assignment is to non-emergency calls; however, they may occasionally be exposed to emergency situations.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS - May be required to stand for long periods of time and do considerable walking while carrying medical equipment
- Must be able to carry objects weighing up to 75 pounds or more (i .e. EMS equipment, trauma bags, people) without assistance of an aid , for distances of more than 20 feet and multiple flights of stairs
- Must be able to enter data in a computer (PC), tablet or other devices, with or without keyboard, to document reports and patient charting
- Must be physically able to operate a variety of medical machinery and equipment including, but not limited to, suction units, immobilization equipment, intravenous infusions, syringes and medications, and cardiac monitors/defibrillators/pacers; two-way radios, etc.
WORK ENVIRONMENT - Schedules vary and will include weekends, nights, and holidays. AHPs will respond to medical calls for service in a pre-hospital setting.
- Work at emergency scenes may involve strenuous physical exertion, often under adverse climatic conditions, in these situations, the employee is exposed and subjected to danger and hazards that could result in severe injury.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Additional Minimum License/Certification: - Successful completion of an accepted EMT program and current CA EMT License
Minimum Education/Experience: - High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
- Specific UC Davis Allied Health Support Technician Training is to be completed within 9 months of hire through agency approved course work, on-the-job training or any other combination of educational resources as approved.
Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSA) : - Ability to read, write, speak, and understand the English language.
- Knowledge of current trends in emergency medicine, allied health, behavioral health, and public health fields.
- Commitment to excellence in patient care. Demonstrates accountability and professionalism. Adapts to change in a positive, professional, and productive manner.
- Basic computer skills.
- Strong interpersonal skills for collaborating effectively with clinical and professional staff and the community. Ability to exercise professional judgment with sensitive and/ or confidential issues CPR Certification.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS Preferred Education/Experience: - Experience working as part of a community crisis prevention and/or crisis response team.
- Undergraduate or Graduate Degree in life sciences, behavioral sciences, or allied health care professional school
- Experience working in mental health, behavioral health facilities, and/or community groups providing mental and behavioral health services.
- Experience in situations/environments involving mental/behavioral health crisis management.
