Project Description : The Cities Project combines research, teaching, service, and advocacy to support children growing up in urban poverty. Cities research is focused on understanding a) how stress affects children and b) what protects children and helps them grow despite stress exposure. Results of Cities research was used to develop Cities Mentor Project, which connects Chicago Public School Students with University Mentors to support coping, learning, and activism for both groups of students. The Cities Project is a unique research and service-learning project at Loyola University Chicago ( LUC ). Each LUC student will be paired with 6th-8th grade student to mentor at a participating school. They will attend weekly mentoring sessions at their mentee’s school throughout the year during which they work in small groups as well as one-on-one with their mentee. In addition to weekly mentoring sessions, mentors will engage with the mentees through weekly activities that help support the mentee.
Project Manager : Seeking a part-time staff member to serve as project manager for the Cities Project for 10-15 hours/week. Project manager will coordinate grant operations, collaborate with grant personnel to ensure implementation of grant activities, support data collection and management, liaison with partner institutions, organize team meetings and agendas and related documentation. Performs other duties as assigned.
