Job description
The role of a
Respite Nurse is to offer one-on-one time between a child and licensed nurse within the family’s home or community, or to provide nursing support and oversight to 10-12 children in a team environment on weekends. Respite care is designed to give families a break from the day-to-day care involved in raising a child with special healthcare needs. Child
Serve’srespite service allows parents to attend events for their other children, schedule appointments for themselves, or simply take time to recharge.

When You’ll Work
- In home, 1:1 service is primarily afternoons, evenings, and weekends. Can be regularly scheduled or as needed.
- Group services start Friday 6pm through Sunday 6pm. Shifts are typically 8-12 hours. High need on Saturdays
What You’ll Do
- Proved one-on-one nursing support in the home or community/Provide nursing support, rehabilitative needs, and preventative care in a ratio of 1:3 at the ChildServeCenter
- Interact with the child and participate in fun activities.
- Complete electronic documentation and paper MARS
- Possible skills used: medication administration, g-tube nutrition, seizure management, trach cares, etc.
What You’ll Need
- Current valid RN/LPN license in Iowa
- Valid driver’s license with two or fewer violations in the past three years
- Active BLS from the American Heart Association or American Red Cross
- Experience working with children with special health care needs preferred.
- Ability to communicate effectively in reading, writing and speaking the English language.
- Ability to lift up to 35 lbs, be mobile within the assigned work area, and frequently bend, lift, reach, and stand.
