Job description
Morgan, Lewis & Bockius LLP, one of the world’s leading global law firms with offices in strategic hubs of commerce, law, and government across North America, Asia, Europe, and the Middle East, is seeking to hire a Fixed Asset Accountant. Reporting to the Senior Director of Tax, the Fixed Asset Accountant is responsible for maintaining the Firm’s fixed asset records for financial reporting and tax purposes
This position will reside in our Philadelphia office and offers a hybrid in-office/remote working schedule.
Key responsibilities include:
Maintains Detailed Fixed Asset Records
Reviews accounts payable vouchers and vendor invoices for proper capitalization.
Compiles monthly updates for fixed asset additions and dispositions for all domestic and foreign offices. Maintains detailed fixed asset records in the Sage FAS software.
Calculates monthly depreciation expense and gain or loss on asset dispositions, prepares journal entries and maintains accounting records.
Prepares detailed WIP accounts for office renovations and/or projects undertaken by our information technology department.
Maintains partner furniture records.
Work requires a basic understanding of foreign currency exchange rates.
Updates General Ledger
Prepares monthly journal entries and reconciliations between the fixed asset detailed records and the general ledger.
Reconciles and analyzes fixed assets, analyzes discrepancies and resolves the issues within a tight timeframe.
Prepares Depreciation Reports for Tax Purposes
Calculates annual depreciation expense for regular tax, alternative minimum tax and state tax purposes.
Calculates gain or loss on asset dispositions for regular tax, alternative minimum tax and state tax purposes.
Calculates regular tax depreciation for interim annualized income calculations and various state and local tax returns.
Provides detailed fixed asset information for tax returns prepared in foreign jurisdictions.
Prepares Firm’s Property Tax Returns
Queries the fixed assets system by applicable office and reports the applicable values.
Analyzes the financial statement reporting versus the required property tax reporting and makes appropriate adjustments.
Prepares tax returns for review and approval.
Files the tax returns on line at the website of the applicable jurisdiction.
Sales and Use Tax Return Preparation
Analyzes accounts payable invoices to determine if appropriate sales tax accruals have been recorded in the general ledger. Makes adjustments as necessary.
Calculates tax liabilities for multiple states.
Monitors tax return filing due dates and ensures compliance.
Prepare Projections
Develops depreciation expense projections for budget and planning purposes.
Special Projects as Assigned.
Experience and qualifications:
Bachelor's degree (B. A.) from four-year college or university, in the accounting field and a minimum 1 year of related experience.
Proficient in MS-Office Word and Excel.
Elite 3E, and Sage FAS experience is helpful but not required.
