DEQ is looking for an Energy Resource Professional to join our team in the Energy Planning Section at the Montana Energy Office. The Office’s work includes providing public education about our energy system, participating in utility resource planning processes, overseeing renewable energy decommissioning and bonding, implementing funding for grid resilience and reliability, planning and funding electric vehicle deployment, and leading Montana’s energy emergency response team.

This Energy Resource Professional position involves cross-cutting energy program work that includes: 1) administering the wind and solar bonding and decommissioning program; 2) collaborating with utilities to support projects that enhance the reliability and resilience of the electric grid; and 3) supporting Montana’s energy emergency response program.

Tasks for this position will include stakeholder outreach, verifying compliance with statutory and regulatory requirements, and federal grant tracking and reporting. This position will also support energy emergency response activities of the agency, review energy policy, manage and analyze energy project data and statistics, and contribute to the Energy Office’s collaborative public outreach and education.

The ideal candidate would have previous experience implementing regulatory programs for energy development projects, conducting stakeholder engagement, providing customer service, supporting power systems planning, and implementing federal funding. Strong written and verbal communication skills, experience with project tracking and analysis, and a record of effective teamwork are essential to this position. Experience with emergency response and implementing statutes and administrative rules is also desirable.

The Energy Resource Professional position includes opportunities for professional development and pay progression. The position will be based with the Energy Office at DEQ’s headquarters in Helena, Montana and may be eligible for part-time telework.

· Bachelor’s degree in environmental, biological earth sciences or engineering, Business Administration, or other relevant field or equivalent related experience in energy system analysis and design, grant management, and project development.

· Preferred experience with electric transmission and distribution systems planning; grant management and program implementation; emergency management and response; stakeholder engagement and customer service; and project tracking and analysis.

· Current valid Driver’s License and clean driving record in accordance with State of Montana Vehicle Use Policy.
