Summary

This position for Import and Export at Daiichi Sankyo Inc, will be responsible for managing and optimizing the movement of intermediates, bulk drug substance, bulk drug product, and finished goods within the U.S. and between U.S. and international Contract Manufacturing Organizations (CMO) and supplier sites with a heavy emphasis on cold and frozen transport. This role will involve coordinating with various stakeholders, including suppliers, customs agencies, freight forwarders, and internal teams, to ensure the timely and secure delivery of pharmaceutical goods and materials.

Responsibilities

- Logistics Import/Export Management


- Develop, implement, and monitor import and export strategies to streamline operations, optimize transportation routes, reduce lead-times and costs, and comply with all regulatory requirements while ensuring strict temperature controls are maintained and documented.
- Oversee the import and export process, including documentation, customs clearance, and transportation of intermediates, bulk drug substance, bulk drug product, and finished goods for both ambient and cold chain pharmaceutical materials.
- Work closely with customs authorities to ensure compliance with import and export regulations, including licensing and permits.

Supplier and Relationship Management

- Collaborate with suppliers (i.e. logistics hardware), CMOs, carriers/freight forwarders, and origin and destination sites to achieve consistent cost and on-time delivery goals
- Negotiate contracts with carriers, freight forwarders, and logistics service providers.
- Develop and maintain strong relationships and close cooperation with DS functions around the world including the Unites States (American Regent, Inc.), Japan (DSJ / Tokyo), and Germany (DSE / Pfaffenhofen and Munich)

Metrics Risk Mitigation

- Develop/implement system to monitor and track shipments to ensure they meet quality, safety, and security requirements.
- Establish models and metrics for use in evaluating logistics performance.
- Stay updated on industry trends, regulations, and best practices in pharmaceutical logistics and support SOP development and modifications.
- Collaborate with Supply Chain Planning/Management to develop risk mitigation strategies to ensure continuity of supply in emergency scenarios.

Distribution Operations

- Provide back-up support to outsourced 3PL operations as needed in the areas of order inventory management, transportation, and related metrics.

Education Qualifications (from an accredited college or university)

- Bachelor's Degree Business, Supply Chain Management, Logistics, or a related field required

Experience Qualifications

- 4 or More Years 5+ years Logistics and Supply Chain Management, (preferably in the pharmaceutical industry or a cold chain field required
- 4 or More Years Strong knowledge of U.S. and international trade regulations and customs procedures required
- SAP ERP or other logistics software systems/platforms required
- Pharmaceutical industry or Cold Chain field preferred
- International experience and/or experience working with diverse cultures and global colleagues preferred

Travel

Ability to travel up to 10%. Includes domestic and international travel
