Thompson Hospitality is excited to announce our Summer Internship Program, offering students an opportunity to obtain valuable work experience in the Hospitality Sector. This is a paid professional development opportunity that places interns in a department that aligns with their career interests and field of study.

Duration:
This internship program is seasonal during the summer months, with a start date of May 20 th and end date of August 9 th . Specific work schedules shall be determined by the department based on internship assignment and course requirements. 35 – 40 hours. In office. Internships are non-exempt positions.
Pay: Undergraduate Students: $18.00 per hour
Summer interns will not work more than forty (40) hours in an administrative work week

Responsibilities:

Program Overview: Interns will engage in projects linked to their academic field in Restaurant Operations

  1. Hospitality (FOH Rotation):
    • This rotation includes positions such as host/hostess, server, and bartender.
    • Participants will gain hands-on experience in dealing with guests, taking orders, serving food and beverages, and managing customer interactions.
    • Exposure to different FOH positions ensures a better understanding of how each role contributes to the overall guest experience.
  2. Culinary (BOH Rotation):
    • This rotation involves working in various back-of-house roles, such as line cook, prep cook, dishwasher, and potentially even roles in pastry or specialized cuisines.
    • Participants will learn about kitchen operations, food preparation, safety and hygiene standards, and teamwork in a high-pressure environment.
    • This rotation provides insight into the intricacies of food production and the importance of coordination within the kitchen.
  3. Management:
    • Participants will be exposed to different aspects of management, including scheduling, ordering and receiving supplies, facility management, and leadership skills.
    • Learning about scheduling helps understand labor optimization, while ordering and receiving skills are essential for managing inventory.
    • Facility management knowledge ensures the smooth operation of the physical space, and leadership skills are crucial for managing teams effectively.

By providing a well-rounded training program that encompasses both customer-facing and kitchen roles, along with managerial skills, preparing individuals for versatile roles within the hospitality industry. This approach helps build a solid foundation and enables the intern to adapt to various challenges in the dynamic world of hospitality.

 

 

Qualifications:


Interns must have strong interpersonal and communication skills, be punctual with reliable transportation, have a strong work ethic and maintain confidentiality when required.
