Lead Business Development Manager

Summary
The Lead Business Development Managerwill work as part of our Origination & Project Development team. The Lead will use their skills and experience in utilities, engineering and project management to drive new growth opportunities for NYPA as we work to connect more renewable energy to the grid through new and upgraded transmission and generation projects. We are looking for someone with engineering and/or project management experience within Utilties, specifically with Transmission and Interconnection projects.
The Lead will be integral to NYPA winning competitive opportunities in power transmission and generation - putting together dynamic, impactful bid proposals that demonstrate technical competence and innovation. They will need to be creative, analytical, self-motivated, solutions oriented, and driven to continuous learning and growth.
The Lead Business Development Manager will help NYPA to expand our capabilities in transmitting renewable power to meet demand, increase grid resilience and help NYS reach our clean energy goals. Work is underway in grid modernization, NYISO Public Policy Transmission Needs (PPTN), Offshore Wind development, and renewable generation deliverability.

Responsibilities
Identify and evaluate opportunities in alignment with NYPA’s strategic plan.
Perform or oversee the performance of economic, quantitative, and statistical analysis to support the assessment of new opportunities.
Maintain knowledge of the NYISO markets and FERC transmission proceedings to inform the assessment of new opportunities.
Assemble and lead project teams to perform due diligence and/or develop new business opportunities.
Prepare the business case for new opportunities including the commercial model, policy alignment and key risk identification
Prepare and make presentations to senior management proposing and providing updates on business opportunities.
Support senior Origination management in negotiations on new opportunities.
Prepare, in collaboration with the legal department, agreements such as Memorandum’s of Understanding, joint development agreements, purchase and sale agreements, leases, and others as applicable.
Manage the due diligence process by overseeing the valuation analysis process and the identification of sensitivities pertinent to individual strategic opportunities.
Act as a liaison between NYPA management team and project stakeholders for development and implementation of new projects.
Liaise with the senior management of external parties including developers, transmission owners, NYISO, and regulatory agencies.
Participate in industry events, trainings, and conferences as needed including NYISO and FERC meetings.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Advanced leadership, analytic, communication, negotiation, project management and interpersonal skills with ability to communicate clear objectives and motivate a team.
Ability to work both independently and in collaborative teams.
Good understanding of the energy industry and NYISO markets.
Maintain knowledge of procurement processes to acquire resources necessary to identify and develop new projects.
Ability to interface and effectively communicate with senior management.
Good understanding of financial and business concepts.
Good understanding of New York’s clean energy goals, including the Clean Energy Standard, the Climate Leadership and Community Protection Act (CLCPA), and the Accelerated Renewable Energy Growth and Community Benefit Act.
Education, Experience and Certifications
Bachelor’s Degree in engineering or a similar technical field.
Advanced degree preferred.
Minimum of 8 years of experience in a combination of the following areas: energy/transmission project development, engineering, financial modeling, project management, or contract negotiations.
Experience with the NYISO electric marketplace preferred
Experience with the development or implementation/execution of large bulk transmission projects preferred.
Physical Requirements
The New York Power Authority is committed to providing fair, competitive, and market-informed compensation. The target salary range for this position in the White Plains location is: $134,540 - $180,000 and for this position in the Albany location $115,020 - $170,000.
