Job description

Atlantic Health is searching for a full time Exercise Physiologist for their outpatient Cardiac Rehabilitation Department out of Morristown Medical Center. The idea candidate will have 

Job Functions:

1. Instruct Patients on Appropriate Low-Level Activity per department policy & procedure Evaluates patients cardiac status before, during and after exercise, including instruction and supervision of a structured progressive monitored activity program for all candidates. Organizes and conducts patient/family education programs for the purpose of supportive counseling regarding exercise physiological responses and coronary artery disease. Age Specific Competencies: Young Adult-Geriatric.

2. Provides a Safe and Stimulating Environment for Patients and assumes responsibility for the total needs of the patients including physical, psychological and education daily. Assesses patient s needs, sets priorities, and evaluates EKG, vital signs, and other responses to exercise daily Adapts present exercise regime to sudden change in cardiac status. Recognizes emergency situations and reacts appropriately. Demonstrates customer focus care to all patients/families/significant others. Checks and calibrates all equipment, cleans and maintains equipment and notifies clinical engineering for appropriate services.Age Specific Competencies: Young Adult-Geriatric.

3. Assesses and Evaluates Psychological Needs of Clients and initiates referrals to professional and/or community mental health resources. Addresses each patients problems according to level of coping, denial, anger and acceptance. Encourages verbalization and educates patients regarding professional help available (i. E., support groups). Assures that patients rights are respected and complies with HIPAA guidelines outlined in AHS policy & procedures. Age Specific Competencies: Young Adult- Geriatric.

4. Documents Accurately All Pertinent Data and Maintains Permanent Records. Communicates as needed with physicians. Maintains accurate log for analysis and statistics. Manages patient scheduling package as needed. Completes multidisciplinary patient education form, and documents according to departmental policy & procedures. Summarizes assessment, evaluation of physiological response to exercise, risk factor modification, and compliance and progression throughout the program. Age Specific Competencies: Young Adult-Geriatric.

5. Functions as an educator for Patients, Family, Community & Staff. Assesses patient and family educational needs. Facilitates important educational and discharge instructions to all patients adjusted according to their needs. Prepares and delivers biweekly educational lectures to post open heart patients and families. Provides education on risk factors, behavior modification, life style changes, disease processes, and use of medications. Conducts formal and informal, individual and group teaching sessions for patients and families. Flexes teaching style to meet a variety of learning needs. Provides orientation for new Exercise Science staff; acts as a mentor to CVT students & interns. Age Specific Competencies: Young Adult-Geriatric.

6. Interfaces with other professionals as a resource person on Cardiovascular Exercise and disease Management as a resource to MMC and AHS staff members and professional community. Maintains current knowledge on exercise physiology, cardiac wellness, disease processes, treatment, intervention and prevention issues. Participates in professional organizations related to this field. Age Specific Competencies: Young Adult-Geriatric.

7. Functions as a team member with Cardiac Rehab Staff. Communicates effectively and actively listens and seeks feedback. Collaborates with team members to solve problems and resolve conflicts. Builds trusting relationships with co-workers, physicians and supervisors. Communicates ideas for enhancing service to patient population. Participates in departmental meetings & PI activities. Age Specific Competencies: Young Adult- Geriatric.

8. Identifies own learning needs and Recognizes performance strengths and deficiencies. Exhibits the ability to work independently. Accepts suggestions for personal or professional development in a positive manner. Identifies opportunities to upgrade personal or professional growth. Obtains & maintains certifications pertinent to patient population. Seeks new information to broaden knowledge base and keep practice current. Editor of Cardiac Rehabilitation patient newsletter.

9. Demonstrates Professional Behavior/Attitudes Adheres to hospital and departmental procedures including the dress code, vacation time, and time PC. Acts in a professional and courteous manner toward all customers; ie: physicians, vendors, insurance representatives, volunteers, patients, family members and staff. Answers the phones in a professional, courteous and timely fashion including name and department

Required:
1. Bachelor’s degree in Exercise Science, Exercise Physiology or related field. 

2. BCLS/ACLS certification

Preferred:
1. Master’s degree in Exercise Physiology or related field.
2. Certification in American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM). 
3. Clinical experience in cardiac rehabilitation in patient/outpatient.
