Group 33: Advanced Sensor & Testbed Technical Summer Intern

MIT Lincoln Laboratory

Location

Lexington, MA | United States

Job description

The Advanced Sensor Systems and Test Beds Group performs concept development, prototype design, analysis, and
demonstrations in support of the National test ranges and HF and air defense radars and systems. Major activities
within the group include the development of optical systems, communication systems, and wideband, airborne,
over-the-horizon, and bistatic radar systems with technology development in the areas of phased arrays, advanced
waveforms, adaptive signal processing, and unique detection and tracking algorithms. The work in the group often
requires the fabrication of one-of-a-kind operational and experimental test assets in support of a significant amount of
field testing and data collection to prove new concepts. Activities in the group cover a broad and changing range of
technical areas and often involve collaboration with other groups in the Laboratory and industry partners. Principal staff
expertise in the group includes system analysis, RF engineering, software architecture, digital signal processing, radar
detection and tracking, guidance and control, experimental physics, and hardware development and integration.
A Summer Research Program intern is needed to collaborate with team members working on a broad range of research
involving software development, signal processing, and hardware fabrication. Work entails providing software test and
development, hardware test and development, and data analysis in these areas to support ongoing projects. Specific
project assignments can be tailored to interest/background of a candidate.
Desired Position Skills and Experience:
Current enrollment in a program working towards an BS, MS, or PhD degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer
Engineering, Computer Science, Physics, or Mathematics.
A minimum GPA of 3.5 is desired.
Effective organizational skills and ability to work independently and in a collaborative team environment.
Strong written and oral communication skills.
MATLAB, C, or C++ programming experience (or comparable) is strongly desired.

Our systems and testbeds run on hardware and analysis. The successful candidate will help our team with work stemming from hardware development, signal processing, algorithms, and analysis. Technical interns may specialize in equipment-based hardware projects, or scripting-based analysis projects. A multidisciplinary team is required to both develop advanced RF sensor prototypes and analyze the resulting data produced by them. Therefore, we are looking for interns from a wide range of backgrounds, including candidates pursuing a BS, MS, or PhD in engineering, physics, mathematics, or other technical fields. Specific project assignments may be tailored to the interest and background of the candidate.

Position Qualifications

Selected candidate will be subject to a pre-employment background investigation and must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret level DoD security clearance.
