Rabbi or Cantor

Agudath Israel Etz Ahayem

Location

Alabama | United States

Job description

Overview

We are a traditional, egalitarian, Conservative Synagogue in historic Montgomery Alabama looking for an interim Rabbi or Cantor. Sadly, our Rabbi is retiring this summer – he stayed 17 years, so we must be fairly likeable. This is your opportunity to spend a year in the birthplace of the Civil Rights Movement, the Southern Poverty Law Center and the Equal Justice Center. In fact, Jewish groups from throught the country visit Montgomery’s historical Civil Rights museums and memorials and then stop by the shul to learn about our role in the 1955 Bus Boycott, catch a Shabbat service and a Kosher meal. We are hoping for a Rabbi or Cantor, (Conservative, Reconstructionist or Reform) who wants to try a little bit of everything because we have only one Rabbi – Shabbat services, Sunday School and adult education, spiritual and halacha guidance. We do have a board and congregation who are happy to help any way we can. We really want a leadership partner (emphasis on partner), with fresh new ideas and old-fashioned caring support for our congregants. A few more details on our congregation: Est. 110 families; mature adult congregation; midcentury building in a diverse neighborhood; Southern hospitality; Sephardic/Ashkenazi mix. Please consider joining us for the next year of your career.
