Job Summary: As the Senior Associate Athletics Director, the incumbent will Assist the Director of Athletics in the overall management, supervision, and leadership of the CSUSB Athletics Department.
Major duties and responsibilities: - Serve as a member of senior leadership team for the department to develop and implement the department's strategic plan, establish, and enforce department-wide priorities, and setting short- and long-term goals.
- Assist the Director of Athletics in the overall management, supervision, and leadership of the department. Serve as a lead advisor to the Director on long range strategic planning initiatives, departmental policies & procedures development, planning, monitoring, and allocation of resources, including continuous contributions to department reporting initiatives that assess strategic goals, outcomes, and results. The incumbent will collaborate with university offices and community agencies to effectively manage assigned functions. The incumbent will support collaborative efforts that focus on relationship building and stewardship with both internal and external partners.
- The incumbent may represent the University at appropriate CCAA, NCAA and university meetings. Oversee Special Projects. Manage and direct conference and national tournaments, including all game day operations, facilities, project management for facilities, ticketing.
- Daily oversight and management of the following Athletics operation units:
- Compliance Services: Oversee a comprehensive NCAA compliance program, including managing the Compliance Coordinator.
- Student-Athlete Academic Services: Managing student-athlete academic support and life skills programming, to include supervision of athletics academic advisor.
- Game Operations: Successful execution of over 100 dates of competition across all sport programs, including host to CCAA and NCAA post-season tournament/championship events.
- Working with campus to schedule of all practice and competition dates in EMS and communicate and problem-solve conflicts. Emergency action planning for each venue.
- Successful liaison with game officials, visiting teams, custodial, Yotie Eats, facilities management, grounds, CES security, UPD, vendors, and special event services.
- Ticketing: Management of mobile Hometown Ticketing account operations and strategies for men's and women's soccer, men's and women's basketball, volleyball, and baseball programs.
- Facilities Maintenance/Project Management: Facilities maintenance and project management of each of the following venues: Health & Physical Education Building staff and coaches offices, Student-Athlete Academic Success Center, Team Locker Rooms, The Storage Room, Laundry/Equipment, Coussoulis Box Office, Coussoulis Arena, Sports Medicine Center, Fiscalini Field, Coyote Softball Park, Strength & Conditioning Tent, Premier Field, and Athletics Fields.
- Equipment/Apparel: Management of inventory, storage, laundry and repair of team and department equipment and apparel.
- Special Events: Homecoming, Dave Stockton Coyote Classic, Blue & Black Celebration, Student-Athlete Welcome Back Social, Student-Athlete Showcase, Hall of Fame
- The incumbent will provide direct recruitment, retention, and supervision over approximately 50 professional, casual workers, vendors, independent contractors, and student paraprofessional staff.
- Serve as a sport administrator for selected sports to achieve the goals and objectives critical to the program or department. A sport administrator is responsible for evaluating the coaches within the program, directs the operating budget for the team, and ensure the department adequately supplies the student-athletes with the resources necessary to succeed academically and athletically.
- Develop, implement, and maintain policies and procedures for the department.
- Serves as a primary internal contact for Title IX and Student Conduct
- Eligible for Senior Woman Administrator designation and accompanying responsibilities.
- Serve as SAAC Advisor
- Other duties as assigned by the Director of Athletics
Minimum Qualifications: Required Education and Experience - 5 or more years of progressive experience in the oversight of NCAA athletic Compliance
- Management experience within college athletics
- Collegiate student services background and in-depth knowledge
- A bachelor's degree from an accredited university is required.
Required Qualifications - Works with minimal direction. Assignments are received in task and objective oriented terms. Independently determines and develops approach to solutions. Work is reviewed upon completion for soundness of judgment, effectiveness in achieving desired results, and/or organizational goals. May determine organizational objectives, interpret university policy, and delegate assignments to subordinate supervisors and managers.
- Develops and implements policies for a functional area. Interprets, executes, and recommends modifications to department campus policies. May participate with the management team in the development and administration of department, division, campus, or systemwide policies.
- Responsible for achieving the goals and objectives critical to the program or department. Failure to obtain results or erroneous decisions or recommendations would normally result in serious program delays and expenditure of resources. The consequence of error may also adversely impact allocated financial and human resources, as well as the public relations posture of the campus. May provide solutions to a wide range of difficult problems. These solutions are imaginative and practical.
- May generally accomplish results through non-exempt and exempt employees and/or subordinate supervisors and managers. Responsible for determining the organizational structure and supervisory relationships to achieve established goals. Responsible for a major program or department.
- Responsible for the overall administration of assigned program or department. May manage the operation through subordinate supervisors to achieve objectives. Ensures that budget and performance objectives are established and attained.
- Extensive and in-depth knowledge of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) and NCAA Clearing House policies and processes. Specific knowledge to ensure incoming student-athletes, transfer student-athletes and auxiliary rosters are eligible to participate in intercollegiate athletics by meeting NCAA and Conference eligibility requirements.
- Demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality and appropriately handle sensitive communications with students, employees, and external agencies.
- Demonstrated ability to mediate conflicts and provide dispute resolution in a fair and objective manner.
- Demonstrated ability to interpret technical procedures or regulations as well as CSU and university policies and procedures.
- Ability to effectively communicate NCAA rules and regulations governing recruiting, amateurism, awards, and benefits, playing and practice seasons, and sports camps and clinics.
Preferred Qualifications - A master's degree from an accredited university is preferred.
Compensation and Benefits: Anticipated Hiring Range: $8,333 - $8,750 per month
Classification Salary Range: $4,583 - $14,713 per month
The salary offered will take into account internal equity and experience among other factors.
The CSU system provides a comprehensive benefit package that includes medical, dental and vision plans, membership in the California Public Employees Retirement System (CalPERS), sick and vacation time, and 15 paid holidays a year. Academic year schedule: Monday through Friday (8:00 am - 5:00 pm), some evenings/weekends.
Summer schedule: Monday through Thursday (7:00 am - 5:30 pm), some evenings/weekends.
This is a full-time management (MPP) position. MPP employees serve at the pleasure of the campus President. MPPs do not serve a probationary period and never receive permanent status.
This position is a 'designated position' in the California State University's Conflict of Interest Code. The successful candidate accepting this position is required to file Conflict of Interest forms subject to the regulations of the Fair Political Practices Commission.
