Job description
The Food Service Assistant works collaboratively with the kitchen staff to prepare and serve high-quality meals to patients and staff. Additionally, they maintain food safety by rotating food stores, cleaning and sanitizing work areas, and following established procedures. The Food Service Assistant also communicates relevant information to management for appropriate action.
Key Responsibilities: - Serves portions of food on trays or plates following assigned diets, and ensures safe food practices such as temperature monitoring, cross-contamination prevention, and proper storage.
- Maintains a clean and sanitized work environment, including proper cleaning of kitchen equipment according to a daily and weekly schedule.
- Completes HACCP workbook, production records, and temperature logs for all food items.
- Reports any equipment repairs to the Food Service Supervisor and meets personal hygiene and infection control policies.
- Works as a team member in the hospital’s kitchen to ensure quality meals are served to patients and staff, and reports pertinent information to management for follow-up.
Qualifications & Requirements:
Education
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
Experience
- One (1) year food production experience in commercial, military or institutional setting is preferred. Experience in the field of corrections/detainee management and prior correctional food service training is preferred.
Licenses/Certifications
- ServSafe certification highly preferred. Must obtain ServSafe Certification within three (3) months of employment.
