Position Function:

The Community Service Officer is a civilian member who works under the direction of the Community Services Division Commander and possesses all of the requisite knowledge, skills, and physical abilities incumbent upon the position. The member performs moderately complex, operational, administrative, and clerical support duties specific to the position. Duties include a variety of tasks, as well as responsible customer service contacts.

The Community Service Officer may perform other related duties and tasks, as required, and shall have the physical, mental, and emotional abilities to perform the essential job duties of the position. The most essential job function of the position is attitude which includes the following: interacting positively and cooperating with co-workers, responding politely to customers, working as a team member, functioning under intense time pressure, and responding positively to supervision.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

  1. Responsible for the daily administrative operations necessary to achieve and maintain compliance with State law and established industry standards, to ensure efficient and effective implementation of varied tasks, and responsible customer service contacts, utilizing standards of best practice.

  2. Responsible for administrative support duties relating to the Division. Duties include assisting officers, conducting faulty equipment checks, conducting abandoned vehicle checks, traffic assistance, funeral escorts, processing found property, and responding to and investigating non-violent, past occurred calls for service as assigned. Completes detailed written and computer-generated reports.

  3. Responsible for exceptional customer service. Duties include providing general information and referral information in person and through telephone inquiries to internal and external customers. Provides fingerprinting services, and VIN checks. Performs non-emergency duties. Maintains confidential information.

  4. Responsible for supervising court-ordered community service workers. Duties include assignment of duties, and overseeing completion of tasks performed. Ensures community service workers have sufficient supplies/tools to complete assignments.

  5. Responsible for conducting Quartermaster duties/tasks in accordance with General Orders. Duties include ensuring sufficient inventory/supplies are maintained in an orderly fashion.

  6. Performs additional duties as assigned.

Environment:

Environment relates to administrative duties performed within an office environment or setting, in non-emergency response services, and through extensive public contacts, with moderate amounts of stress. Works with computers and complex software programs; Possible exposure to dust, mold, noise, inclement weather, extreme temperatures, smoke, fire, toxic or caustic chemicals and/or fumes, mechanical and/or moving parts, high elevations, vibration, blood borne pathogens, viruses, disease, and other like items commonly associated with non-emergency response services. The position may require acts of physical endurance and agility. Position may be subject to call 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. The position may require working an on-call schedule. The position may be required to respond to critical incidents and natural disasters.
