JOB TITLE: JUNIOR HIGH ASSISTANT PRINCIPAL
REQUIREMENTS:
- Master’s Degree in Secondary School Administration
- Valid state certification in school administration
- Minimum of five years successful teaching experience
- Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Superintendent may find appropriate and acceptable
REPORTS TO: Junior High School Principal
RECEIVES GUIDANCE FROM: Junior High School Principal
JOB GOAL: The Junior High School Assistant Principal’s primary responsibility is the supervision, discipline, and monitoring of students; this individual also assists the Principal in providing educational leadership to Junior High School staff and supports district-wide goals and initiatives
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: 220 day contract: Salary placement will be determined by using the
administrative compensation framework system
EVALUATION: Evaluated annually in accordance with provisions of the district’s Personnel Evaluation Policy
ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
Instructional Leadership
- Makes periodic visitations to all classrooms, the primary objective being to evaluate the teacher and improve the quality of teaching. Such visits are to be followed by written feedback and conference in accordance with the evaluation policies and procedures of the school district
- Periodically reviews the lesson plans of the instructional staff members on improving their planning skills
- Is involved in the curriculum decisions of the school and shall serve on staff committees, hold membership in professional organizations, attend appropriate conferences and clinics, and become thoroughly familiar with innovative methods in instruction and curriculum
- Assist in disseminating information to the staff pertaining to services and materials available through the various resources utilized by the school system
Staff Support and Supervision
- Strives to develop effective relationships with staff members and build a positive climate and culture
- Shall be available for conferences regarding student behavior problems, classroom procedures, curriculum interpretations, parental conferences, and other concerns which may affect the staff
- Become thoroughly familiar with school board policies and the administrative procedures of the school district; is able to converse intelligently about these policies and procedures and give interpretations to members of the staff
- Serves as a member of the interviewing team when needed as candidates are being considered for various positions in the building
- Assigns staff members for extra duty obligations and shall be responsible for the proper supervision and execution of such duties
Public Relations
Students
- Responsible for general discipline of the student body
- Responsible for student attendance and work collaboratively with support staff to maintain accurate records
- In cooperation with the principal, responsible for developing the general rules and regulations under which the student body shall function and enforce those rules and policies of the Board of Education
- Assist the principal with the general supervision of all student activities scheduled outside of the regular school day (both at home and at other school sites)
- Works with the scheduling process as determined by the principal
Miscellaneous
- Assume the leadership of the school in the absence of the principal
- Shares with the building principal the responsibility for the supervision of the general maintenance of the physical plant. This responsibility shall include regular inspections of the premises, both exterior and interior, and prompt action to correct any problems which become apparent
- Responsible for the general supervision of the lunchroom which will also include:
- Assignment of teacher supervision
- Consult with the building principal regarding annual budget requests submitted from instructional staff; this may include assigning additional responsibilities in specific departmental budget making
- Responsible for other duties as assigned by the building principal, Director of Teaching and Learning, Superintendent, or Board of Education
