Job Description

The Pharmacy Director assumes the role of Pharmacist in Charge and holds accountability for the operational management of the Pharmacy Department functioning as its primary pharmacist. The primary objective is to efficiently manage the department in alignment with its philosophy policies objectives and budgetary constraints. The director actively integrates and showcases customer service strategies to realize the organizational goals.

Essential Requirements

1. Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy is mandatory; preference for PharmD and/or MBA/MS (or equivalent education/experience)

2. Current state license for pharmacy practice is a must

3. Demonstrated skills in management leadership and/or program management

Desirable Qualifications

1. A minimum of five years experience in hospital pharmacy is advantageous

Responsibilities:

Demonstrate administrative capabilities by managing daytoday operations effectively.

Establish goals policies procedures and objectives to drive departmental operations.

Enhance services and ensure compliance with regulatory standards.

Keep leadership abreast of operational activities requirements and challenges.

Initiate and oversee the implementation of new services procedures and pharmacy automation solutions.

Foster a culture of teamwork across the organization.

Design and execute Performance Improvement Programs focusing on pharmacy operations.

Exhibit proficiency in evaluating and enhancing organizational performance.

Encourage ongoing professional development through inservice and external education for departmental staff.

Lead the pharmacy team by overseeing recruitment training scheduling addressing performance concerns coaching and mentoring.

Review and endorse schedules for Technicians and Pharmacists before staff distribution.

Conduct regular meetings with pharmacy staff to discuss operational aspects.

Develop execute and monitor appropriate staffing plans based on factors like acuity and census.

Coordinate and facilitate performance reviews within the recommended timeline utilizing suitable methods to assess staff competence.

Oversee purchasing and inventory management activities.

Demonstrate comprehension of JC Standards HCFA CARF and State Standards ensuring departmental compliance.

Act as a preceptor for pharmacy students or residents.

Guide pharmacy students during rotations in line with college requirements.

Prepare sterile and nonsterile compounds adhering to USP standards.

Verify physician medication orders accurately and promptly.

Monitor and assess the six critical medication management processes actively engaging in continuous quality and performance improvement initiatives with physicians and clinical staff.

Verify and authorize the work of Pharmacy Technicians.

Manage and utilize the computerized pharmacy system effectively.

Order store and ensure the safety and efficacy of medications.

Monitor drug therapy for appropriateness promote rational drug therapy and conduct anticoagulant monitoring.

Foster positive relationships with all customers.

Ensure compliance with regulatory and accreditation standards.

Offer information to medical staff and administration regarding costeffective pharmaceutical use.

Collaborate with physicians specialists and clinicians to implement appropriate drug use guidelines and protocols based on evidencebased medicine and national guidelines.

Provide drug information to nurses physicians and fellow pharmacists to ensure updated drug therapy information.

Offer specialized services to assist nurses and patients in managing conditions such as diabetes high blood pressure asthma etc.

Recommend changes to drug therapy based on patient assessments.

Document clinical interventions therapy recommendations and other clinical activities to maintain accurate patient records per departmental procedures.

Contribute to the Medication Reconciliation activities of the Pharmacy Department.

Perform additional duties as assigned.
