Position:
VanZandt Controls and Eagle Automation has an opening for a Communication Specialist to expand our efforts in the fast paced, and growing oil and gas market in the Permian Basin of West Texas and South-East New Mexico. This role will be based out of the Permian but will be required to travel. The ideal candidate would be a self-starter, reliable, demonstrate a desire to learn and is capable of adapting quickly across job functions and responsibilities. Projects include well-pad installations, commissioning, maintenance, trouble-shooting, compressor stations, salt-water disposals (SWD's), plants, and programming. We are looking for a candidate that wants to grow and advance within our business.
Ideal candidate would have experience in the following:
- Act as primary resource for troubleshooting communications equipment, communications issues with EFM's and associated control devices for operational and maintenance assistance.
- Utilize advanced and specialized expertise in several areas of communications and telemetry
- Provide technical input on network engineering designs and to ensure operational reliability, integrity, and functionality of SCADA field telecommunications assets.
- Communicate and coordinate field activities related to the installation, startup, and operation of new equipment
- Primary first and second level support for Radio Frequency equipment such as MAS radios, Unlicensed Microwave, Spread Spectrum radios, cellular modems, and network equipment.
- Installation and Maintenance of telecom site AC/DC power systems (e.g., solar systems, battery systems, low voltage disconnect units, uninterruptable power supply)
- Advanced telemetry troubleshooting and performs root cause analysis (RCA) on catastrophic issues that impact daily operations that rely and require communications .
- Work with company project management team ensure process control by monitoring project completed and scheduled field implementation tasks. This includes the comparisons of actual performance with project and company standards.
- Performs preventative maintenance on company wireless system using a wide variety of test equipment, including service monitors, spectrum analyzers, site masters, and volt meters.
- Operate and manage daily telecommunications activities using IT Service Management System (ITSM)
Experience:
- Associate degree in electronics, instrumentation, or telecommunications.
- Advanced knowledge of SCADA communication data flow and protocols in the Oil & Gas industry.
- Advanced knowledge of radio frequency equipment, transmitters, receivers, and transceivers.
- Knowledge of IP addressing and Layer 1 and Layer 2 network equipment.
- General understanding of hydrocarbon flow measurement and control systems.
- General understanding antenna systems and associated hardware.
- Ability to repair structured cabling (e.g., copper, fiber, coax, waveguide) and associated connectors.
- Ability to read all types of documents related to engineering projects such as scope of work, project plan charts (GANTT), P&ID drawings, electrical one-line drawings, construction drawings and equipment manuals.
- Experience and knowledge in troubleshooting and repair of all types of equipment pertaining to instrument/electrical trade: a) 4-20 mA signal; b) basic AC and DC knowledge.
- 5 years of directly related experience.
